Seen in the parking lot at work
Lets take a closer look
I see. And the rears?
Alright. My conclusion is that the owner is a jackass and an idiot.

Or just absolutely clueless and uninformed, either way the result is plainly evident.

doesn’t matter, grille is still intact so you can still use the car for shaving

first thought - maybe someone pulling around the front of a car in a parking lot took front off...
After further review, it appears to be a head-on damage.
After even further review, that person is driving with bald tires in the middle of winter. ASKING for trouble. I hope insurance company owns them.
On side note, I asked my buddy in Germany - if one drives without winter tires in winter time and gets into accident, what happens - he says, insurance company will investigate and if they deem it your fault, the insurance company will not insure you any more. Case closed. Bus time

I don't mind the lack of winter tires. In this area, its hit or miss. Only one snow and as many days above freezing as below. But goddamn, those are slicks.

The fact that rust is present where the paint is chipped tells me that this driver either opted not to have it repaired or lacked enough insurance to get it fixed. Whenever I see a car like this, which is often, I can only assume that they carry only liability insurance.

In all seriousness, kid runs out in front of this car, with those tires, and it's a dead kid. This car can't stop won't stop

It is crazy how far people will stretch it to not buy new tires.

True story. I found all seasons sufficient for North East winters. Winter tires do help a bit, but not night and day difference.
However... THOSE tires I would not use in the summer while parked. Savages

When the cheapy, shittiest tires would be better than what's on there. Or buy a cheaper car and budget for maintenance. Nah, let's endanger everyone around me

Seriously. I wouldn't even run autocross tires that low for fear of blowout under high load

On dry roads it will stop faster! Unless they maintain the brakes the same way they maintain the tires (likely!)

They probably filed a complaint with the NHTSA that their car failed and caused and accident.

We once had a BRZ show up to an autocross with similar front corner damage to that. Both front tires were corded. Needless to say they failed tech.

Hah, looks like what’s left of an ES, so it’ll be FWD. Mileage is probably less, but I’d bet they were still never rotated.

It is my understanding, if involved in an accident, regardless of who was at fault, if you don’t have winter or M+S, your insurance will deny your vehicle claim.

That's what I want to do: some high heat and high loading into tires that are down to their cords. Want to make sure the shrapnel hits the corner workers when they go.

I definitely needed snows in Ithaca, NY . The hills were a bit too much for my all-seasons in a FWD (and definitely too much for my RWD Previa). An AWD could generally get by on all-seasons though.

This is definitely not universally true. It might be the case if you are driving without them in places where they are legally required, but I can’t even find anything claiming that.

Maybe i mixed it with the police
“Police can assign blame to a motorist involved in a winter accident whose car does not have snow tires installed, regardless of who caused the accident. In addition, some insurance companies may deny coverage to motorists driving with summer tires on winter roads.”

That is of course in Germany, though I’d imagine police can assign blame (and also ticket for unsafe tires) after a collision here in the states as well.
