2020 sure has been something... and yet a whole lot of nothing at the same time.
I’ve been somewhat quiet on here mostly on account of there just not being much going on automotive related this year for me. My husband falls into one of the high risk categories for Covid, so basically any non-essential social activity has been a non-starter. No autocross, no cars and coffee, no finally getting my ass out on a track, no going back to Japan, so on and so forth. We’ve been going out so little that even my Google Maps monthly activity report is passively-aggressively trying to shame me.

On the plus side, we’re hella introverted, got a big ol’ stack of backlogged movies and games, and both of our employers had the good sense to let us work remotely since March. For him, it’s officially full remote going forward (thanks to working at a small branch office of a tech giant). For me, it’s at least into sometime next year with hints of drastically increased remote opportunities to follow
. We’re not going to count our chickens just yet, but the possibility of having a full remote household would make our near-ish future plans to move a whoooooole lot more interesting.
Anyway, with all the various automotive activities being off the table, this year’s racing budget was immolated in service of building a sim rig that we’ve been planning on for a while... but better. It took several months to get everything shipped, assembled, and sorted, but it’s finally up and running just in time for Oppo’s impending doom to disincentivize a write-up. I’ll still do one at some point, just not until escape plans are firmed up a bit.
So yes, I’ll still be around in some form or another. This is one of the very few outlets/groups that I’ve actually enjoyed participating in, and this is coming from someone who broadly abhors social media. Oppo is just too entertaining, eccentric, diverse, knowledgeable, and tight-knit to walk away from. That, and I still gotta scratch that itch to write *something* on occasion. Thanks to everyone for making this an excellent place to hang out, and here’s hoping the next one is just as good.
In closing (for now), thanks for making it this far. I know it’s been quite a few words about not a whole lot in a place that’s about to disappear, so as a small reward, enjoy this Crown-Vic-Kart-in-progress having a bit of fun, courtesy of my brother from a few states over.
