I may or may not have participated in some hijinkx like this. We only had one pair of ear muffs and my buddy was taking a piss and I started shooting the .40.... fun to watch someone try to decide to direct the flow off their shoes or plug their ears.

I’ve likely posted this before, but growing up my Dad (who was on a Fletcher-class Destroyer during the Korean War) always corrected me when I would say ‘boat’ when I really should be saying ‘ship’ — our friends 34' Sea Ray was a boat.... cruise liners were ships.

Anyway, during one of the NY Fleet weeks a while back, one of the Iowa-class battleships (not the NJ) sails into NY harbor and up the Hudson. This thing was BIG. It was WIDE. It was LONG. They dock it next to the USS Intrepid museum. The huge battleship is sticking out another ~100 feet into the river past the pier and the aircraft carrier , and we are all amazed at its size . Some poor bastard next to me says “Whoooaaa ....that’s a big boat” and I snapped around and said “That, my friend, is a SHIP!”

Those things are big.

I’ve actually been startled so bdly with this exaxt situation that I’ve noticably jumped and then each shot afterwards was highly aggravating.

I’ m all for cool large caliber firearms but damn, 50 cal is too much for a local range.

A friend of mine brought hi s anti- tank rifle to the range, once. Took both of us to carry it. There was a line of people wanting to shoot it. He started charging a bi t of money for a go . Paid for his rounds, range fees, and additional rounds. That t hing is very pleasa nt to shoot for being 20mm.

How many times did the eagle jam?

My .44 mag isnt that much louder to shoot but I have only ever been behind it, not next to it.
