Good morning/afternoon all!
Just wanted to share a quick update with everyone on the status of the Hyphen (mid-term oppo home that isn’t DriveTribe).
Late Friday after feedback from oppos that didn’t love DT (drivetribe) I started building this thing. It’s involved a lot of feedback, testing and help from many oppos along the way and because of that it’s in pretty good shape today. I’d like to specifically call out and thank RallyDarkStrike, NickHasAnExocet and Jb Boin - they have been involved from the beginning both in feedback and help.
Come take a look/join us if you like.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It only got published to Oppo Sunday afternoon but has grown quickly. It’s not a perfect platform but seems to be working for most folks. You won’t get the exposure you get from DT (I am on there too and have made a few posts) but it does feel a bit like home with lots of back and forth and active engagement.
Traffic-wise we’re putting down some decent numbers as of now with 201 members right now and traffic that looks like this.
The site isn’t perfect by any means and is still actively in development so the look will change every now and again as well as go down occasionally. I’ll try to give everyone notice and keep outages to after 9pm eastern but things will happen. I’d put it in early beta stage right now.
Posting rules right now are pretty much oppo’s don’t be a dick policy.
Oh if you’re having trouble registering, disable your ad blocker and it should let you through.
We are working on a new more blog-like front end in addition to the forum but that’s still a little ways off.
I’ll make a post later about the infrastructure and plans for expansion as they become a little more concrete, but we’re working on it.
See you on the other side Oppo!

I flunked out of computer science pretty damn quick so I’m not gonna be much help, but if you had a GoFundMe or something I’d be happy to contribute towards keeping the lights on.

Huge thanks to JMiner and NickhasanExocet for all their hard work...they’re the ones doing the actual hard work of the design and coding, I’ve just been helping people out with replies and writing up the User Guide (

) and corralling people! :)

Seriously, jminer and co have moved mountains getting Hyphen up and running this fast. Can't thank you enough!

I really appreciate the offer. We’ll get there eventually as you and many other oppos have graciously offered the same. Didn’t want to ask for any money before we got to a critical mass to sustain it and it feels like we’re very nearly there.

I’m regularly surprised at the emotional response I’ve had in the past few days about Oppo being able to survive. While I could be fine without this community, I’m happier being able to have it. Thank you for the Hyphen.

Thank you for being part of this awesome community. Yes we’d all be fine and survive without it, but I for one would have a hole left by it.
I just hope we can maintain, it’ll be hard attracting new blood without the jalop connection, but I think using DriveTribe as that larger hook will help too.

Cool just let us know, I signed up for defector and I don't even really like most sports lol, they're just talented funny people. I'm certainly not mr. Moneybags or anything but I definitely feel like we could contribute to not only cover costs but some of your time and energy as well, I'm sure you're not just looking to make a profit or anything but with how much this means to so many people I certainly think you guys deserve something for the effort too.

Thanks! It’s not quite the final form of the forum but it’s getting close and has gotten pretty usable.

That’s definitely a question of support too. With the explosion of patreon does that make sense to use, paypal one off donation or a large gofundme sort of thing? I have never done this before so I do not know.
Patreon seems to fit best at first blush to cover ongoing costs but not sure.

I’ve never really used any of them except a GoFundMe once for an oppo going through tough times, I am an old soul so I’m not even super clear on what patreon is lol, but I would contribute however works best, a monthly thing or just like a call for donations every so often. I just know that there’s financial costs to keeping everything running but I also think you and whoever else deserve some compensation too for all of your work. I certainly think it shouldn’t be a mandatory thing by any means, but I think there’s enough of us that could cover everything for sure. I don’t post a ton but I easily spend more time on oppo than any other site hands down and I would 100% rather contribute monthly or yearly than have ads or corporate overlords. I know others like drivetribe and I do worry about sustainable membership without that larger community to draw from but I really try to avoid most of the internet so the idea of something more insulated appeals to me too.
