I had to get the glass replaced on my son’s iPhone. S o I drove the few miles to the cell repair store I had used in the past, only to find that they had given up their storefront to go to a mobile repair model in the age of Covid. I called, and the guy asked me my zip code, then he told me that they don’t service my area. However, he offered to drive over to the parking lot where I was and meet me there. I waited about 15 minutes, he pulls up, and fixes the phone in 10. Pretty good deal.

did y ou watch carefully and take notes? This seems like the kind of thing that’s easy to do once you have had some practice (you did say it took < 10 minutes ) but a bit scary the first time out. I’m willin g to tackle a lot of car/house/electronics repairs myself, but I ’ve resisted diving into phone repair even though it comes up just about every six months in my household...

No, the phone disappeared into the van and came out whole. I’m sure it’s not terribly difficult, especially if you work for a company that probably has insurance against damaging people’s stuff. This is not something I would tackle.

I’ve done it before, but apparently it’s gotten a bit harder with new iPhones. More stuff glued in. Luckily I’m a responsible adult who would never have such issues (dropped my phone on a tile floor this morning, sounded like a hard hit but luckily it was fine).

Nothing creepy about that story... nope. Not in the least...

These days it’s just that the connector pitches are SO small... You need good light and a great magnifying set of optics. And a steady hand.
I’ve got an engineer buddy that can do them in his sleep-- in the test lab, armed with the above. But, his kids and wife break a LOT of phones.

I have kids: or as I describe them, boundless bundles of chaos, so they work hard to keep the entropy of the universe flowing in the proper direction, so a broken screen is inevitable :)

That is indeed pretty good cotomer sevis.
If you are feeling in the least intrepid in the future (or if your son is), it’s super easy and cheap to buy screen+digitizer replacement kits on Amazon and do it yourself inside of a half hour. I’ve done it many times now for my daughter and myself.

A dress discrimination. So, anti-feminism?

Ad dress discrimination. You should be able to sell advertising on your gown.

That makes so much more sense. Thank you.

I broke the screen on my old Moto that is actually a model that was renamed to the same name as a different one so I’m scared about parts availability/cost. But it’s so bad I really need to get it done. Any tips?

We are an iPhone family. I would just call around and look at reviews.

Haha my 8 is in about that condition. As luck would have it, Apple finally released a new model I’m actually interested in (iPhone mini) for once. And I know someone who works at an Apple store so employee discount FTW! It goes on sale Friday so this one only has to last a couple more days.

It’s fairly easy. I’ve done several screen and battery replacements. The biggest issue for me is dealing with the adhesive. You have to ramp up the pressure slowly when working things apart or you risk going too hard and breaking things.
