My grandmother, had a Lego set under the sofa, which she called a Davenport . Not a single piece of this kit would have been found in Grandma’s kit. My earliest recollection of that basic set would have been around 1969.
PS: This was a great activity during the Zoom meeting...

Legos have come a long way. She might have had that blue flat 2. But most of it was red and white . That set was well used, at least once a year.

While I was at best buy last night for something completely unrelated I bought a Lego set. I look forward to building it at some point this week.
Lego has changed even a bunch from when I started building 30 years ago.

There may not have been any flats at all. And six square plastic buckets inside the box.

I remember our old Lego set had some blocks with sockets for the axles of the wheels. Seems we got two large diameter tractor-like wheels with gray removable tires, and maybe 2 or 4 smaller wheels. My younger brother removed the tires and chewed them...I guess its lucky he didn’t choke on the things. Certainly building vehicles from the old sets was a challenge.

I was pleased when I bought and built the 911 for Oppohunt that there was at least a big 2x4 chunk block and a few other simple components in there. Granted, the sets I had as a kid weren’t composed of only the most basic elements, but there’s still a sort of rustic charm to those.

Also talking about video L ego building, this would have worked out much better over Z oom, because then May wouldn’t have stolen one of Ha mmond’s pieces partway through, leading to frustrated defeat much later:
Also they probably should have gone with a simpler model...

Personally I liked to chew on the Construx tires as kid:
Soft yet very durable rubber, and the clear ones (with glow-in-the-dark hubs) we even more appealing.

My parents still had them in a tub in their garage until this summer, when they downsized, and alas, these didn’t make the cut.

I actually bought some of those recently. I'll take a pic when I get home.

There is a Lego store called Bricks and Minifigs near me. They are a chain, so check your local listings if you have one near you. They have a bulk table where you fill up a bag of whatever you want. That’s where I found these.
