After a couple of weeks on jackstands I relocated the O2 sensor bung for my bank 2 primary sensor, replaced the sensor, and removed my secondary air pump. The BMW now has no codes... except the ones it should have, considering it has no cats and no air pump.

Kinja'd!!!

Next up: front suspension stuff and dropping the headliner to solve a nasty sunroof rattle from the previous owner ripping the sunshade out and breaking stuff in the process.

Kinja'd!!!

Engine bay, slightly less cluttered without the SAP taking up a ton of room.

Kinja'd!!!

These header bolts SUCK to get to, by the way.

Kinja'd!!!

Engine supported because the passenger motor mount has to come off...

Kinja'd!!!

Turns out the firewall and o2 sensor cannot inhabit the same space. Who knew?

Kinja'd!!!

Had a friend TIG in this new bung. Looks like someone already relocated the downstream... so why not the upstream? Odd.

Kinja'd!!!

My fuel trims were previously something like 12% bank 1 and 0% bank 2. Despite having no codes saying “your o2 sensor is broken” it wasn’t properly altering my fuel like it should have.

Kinja'd!!!

All as expected :)

Are you sure that it’s not because of very bad engine mounts (that the O² sensor was h itting the firewall) ?

Re: header bolts

Before I bought my 1-series, multiple people told me BMWs are easy to work on. It was a bald-faced lie.

I put a new valve cover gasket in a couple weeks ago. A valve cover gasket should not be a 9-hour job (internet quoted 4-5 hours, but as per usual that was optimistic) and should not require seven different socket u-joints .

Do us a favor and clean the top of the washer fluid bottle.

Will do. The whole engine bay is disgusting.

Haha good, just a jab. I love your channel.  My Jaguar doesn’t look too bad on top but it’s GROSS down below. I think some new oil cooler lines will fix the worst of the leaks.

Just get that Maxpeedingrods sponsorship for a perfect suspension fix.

I’m 2 for 3 on cars with leaky oil pans. They both also have RTV instead of gaskets and require subframe removal to fix, so I just street-park at friends house and mop up the puddles at my house. Sigh.

I keep big pieces of cardboard under the TR6 and Jaguar in the garage. Keeps the mess down a little but my garage is far from pristine.

There was that one time I changed oil in the the Jag and didn’t realize the old filter gasket had stuck behind. Didn’t test start it until the next day when I was going to drive it to work, and holy Exxon Valdez, plus I didn’t have time to clean it up until later ha.
