I am glad I used the Sta-Bil as I just put insurance back on my 2008 Acura TSX about a week ago so that I can drive it a little bit before I store it again. I am still working from home and usually use our 99 Golf for most errands. I start the Acura and bring it up to temp every week or two (I need to move it to get to the mower) and might do so during the winter. Early on I disconnected the battery but now I just place a tender on it.
I changed the oil since I hit 1 year (maybe 2k miles) and drove it around a bit on some longer drives. Got the gas tank down to hitting 0 miles (3 gallons are left at that point) and filled it up with fresh gas. Added more fuel stabilizer and will put it back in the garage for the winter.
Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.
(post below is form March 2020)
The gas in my car is a couple of weeks old and I don’t see much driving in the next couple of weeks. Should I put in a fuel stabilizer?

Nah that isn’t very long for modern gas. I usually keep some seafoam in the tank of my cars I don’t drive very much, and I never fill them up all the way. Bu t that is for a few months, seafoam cleans too so I usually add it anyway.

Couple of weeks? Nah. It’s the people hoarding gas right now that will need to do this.

Depends on the ethanol content. If its 15% might not be a bad idea. Less than that and i wouldnt worry.

It took a few pulls but my lawn mower started over the weekend. It had about 1/4 tank and the last time I put gas in it was back in September/October time frame. I’d say you’re good for awhile.

It’s too bad most modern cars don’t have a fuel drain where I could drain off the old stuff when the time comes and use it in my lawn equipment.

I wouldn’t think you’d need to stabilize unless you expect it to take more than 3 months to use that fuel up.
Probably a good idea to get out every now and then for a drive and clear out the fuel that’s tied up in your lines. Plus, I hadn’t driven for over a week and it felt good to get behind the wheel for a sk och.

I have a small electric pump for fuel transfer, they are cheap and run off the ciggy lighter.

Interesting, I usually just use it for winter storage (~6 months). I’d imagine 2 weeks or so isn’t too bad if the car is modern and the gas is new-ish.

Thanks for the reminder. I just filled up the cans for mowing season and I haven’t stabilized them yet.

I started just putting it in to the can each time I fill one up. Probably a little overkill since I try to drain the carbs before storage.

I emptied the cans just last weekend. I fill up five cans at the beginning of the season and usually put stabil in them right away. I usually only use two cans (10 gallons) over the season, but keep the others on-hand so I don’t have to scramble if a hurricane comes. A third can gets me through the fall and winter. If I don’t use it by spring, it goes into the car.

I don’t. I’ve been taking 2 to 4 months on a tank at times with no ill effects. I can’t recommend going longer than that.

Exactly. Monday, before a stay at home order came into force here, I took the two cars that hadn't moved in over a week out for a nice loop on the country type roads near me..

Yeah, I’ve never used stabil on a car in storage and never had an issue.
ALTHOUGH if Honda makes their cars anything like their powersports/utility machines it’s probably a good idea. I swear a honda carb can gell up in 20mins.

Get the marine Sta-bil. Treats WAY more gallons per ounce, more economical even at 2x the price

So, it’s not always better than not using anything.

Only a few months on a modern car that has a non vented plastic/polymer gas tank will not be an issue at all .
I had at least a longer than 3 months (probably something like 4 months) interval between fills on my 99 A3 this year with the initial lockdown and i didn’t have any issue even if it’s remapped.
Granted that i only use premium gas that should help with the higher octane, additional additives ( advertised, i don’t know if it’s making any real difference ) and low ethanol content (5% instead of 10% in the most common gas here).
H igher ethanol content could be problematic as it’s degrading faster and reacting more violently with old hoses (if they are not “ compatible” with ethanol) .

I’ll check that video out, thank you. I had a similar thought and filled it with 93 even though the K24 in my TSX calls for 91.
