We’re all posting our drafts now. This is my last draft. Off it goes! It’s not complete at all.

Kia Soul • Scion xB
If you can ignore the SUV-ified body cladding, I think you can see why I think this, at the very least, is a spiritual successor to the xB. It’s a far cry from the first gen toaster, but compare every proportion with the second gen xB and they’re almost textbook copies of each other. The headlights are almost in the same position, the “fake” vent on the Kia is in the same place as the one on the xB, and the greenhouse is almost a textbook copy minus the reversed shape of the C-pillar.
By the numbers, Soul on the left, xB on the right:
Dimensions:
163 L x 71 W x 64 H
•
168 L x 69 W x 63 H
The Soul is slightly shorter and thinner, but is slightly taller.
Let’s compare manual base models.
Weight, manual base model:
2,884 lbs
•
3,027 lbs
The xB is slightly porkier by 150lbs.
Power, manual base model:
130hp @ 6300 rpm
•
158hp @ 6000 rpm
For base models, the Soul has way less power.
Let’s make this a bit fairer by going to the land of the automatics, where most American buyers seem to put their money. In this case, the Kia steps up to the Plus (where most of the options are locked behind.)
Weight, Soul + / automatic xB:
3,163 lbs
•
3,084 lbs
The Soul Plus goes over the xB by about 80 pounds. Almost negligible...
Power, Soul + / automatic xB:
161hp @ 6200 rpm
•
158hp @ 6000 rpm
The xB still has to suffer with the same engine, but the Plus gets a power bump to compensate for the extra pounds.
A Soul in Plus trim, by the numbers, is almost the exact same thing as an automatic xB. Unbelievable. I only just dug up these numbers, and this is way too convenient...
Jeep Renegade • Honda Element
Now this one’s going to be a bit more of a stretch, considering the Element wasn’t as outdoorsy as the Jeep [citation needed],

Interesting comparison on the Jeep front. Very similar audience to the Element but less quirky.

I see the Kia and Scion more than I see the Jeep and the Element, but that isn’t to say I don’t see it at all. If I may add one to this collection, it’d be these two, which I’d get mixed up a lot without the hatch :
