Hello, I am here, from the past, to share some vintage watercolors prints, from the past, of aircraft, from the past, once operated by United Air Lines.
I still have these prints. I should frame them and put them up somewhere.

So, Oppo, I just rediscovered a set of watercolor prints of vintage aircraft put together by United Airlines in the late 70's given to me by one of my relatives. They’re totally awesome and I thought I would scan them and share them with everybody.
Apparently this collection is 13 of the 43 or so originally made, according to this guy:

Enjoy!

It must have been so cool to fly in one of those early airliners...

Great plane, looks good in the United colors

Not all of them were cool for the pilot though, look at the Fokker "Universal", 5th from the bottom!

I took a ride in a trimotor. It was cool, but I think it would actually be pretty tiring for a long flight. We have it good now

Yeah I was really stoked to see that one. That livery looks great on the Boeing 247-D and the Lockheed Lodestar too.

Awesome! Thanks :)

Haha, definitely, but that might as well be part of the "appeal". Then again, I haven't been in an airlines since... 1998. And I've only flown twice, tickets were pretty expensive when I was a kid, and nowadays I just don't have time to go anywhere that would require me flying.

I love the DC3. I took these a couple weeks ago.
(actually a converted C47)

These are great prints. If you're into aviation I have to recommend you read Tiger Tales: An Anecdotal History of the Flying Tiger Line. It's been my holy grail of civil aviation reading for some time know.

That 247 is gorgeous. I'd love to see that livery on a modern plane. What I also find interesting about the 247 is that you can see the lines of the B-17 that would follow. They've got one of these hanging in the Air & Space Museum.

Wow, you're right, I looked at some side by side pics and you can see the similar lines.

in the event of a water landing... your plane becomes a boat

Yeah haha it is a pretty goofy looking plane.

I imagine that pilot would find it quite cool, even if he dressed warmly.

Good job typing out my thoughts, word-for-word, as I went down and re-read the old comments.

The double bubble makes it considerably less graceful than the B-29.

Honestly I was looking at my STOVL planes post (because of the Skyfire’s recent flight line entries), saw a typo, went to fix it, and then immediately decided I really didn’t want to have to update attribution info on all of those photos...
