I’m installing some weatherstrip around my garage door and the end of it needed some finessing to fit well. I free handed it with the jigsaw . I was too lazy to secure the weatherstrip. The blade grabbed, jumped and gave my thumb a nice ragged tear with the underlying dermal fat globules nicely glistening before a lot of blood obscured it.

I know better than that. I was thinking “ how dangerous can a jig saw be?”. Properly dressed with a wadded up piece of paper towel and tape.

Have you had a tetanus injection in the last few years, worth having it looked at.

I hope it’s okay and heals quickly.

Is it British to say injection? It makes perfect sense but since I'm in merica we normally say shot.

Injection is the most common word used, but some might use shot as in, ‘I’m going for my flu shot’, in Scotland some might say ‘jab’ or ‘jag’.

You may occ asionally come across, ‘ boost’ or ‘booster shot’ as in ‘I need a tetanus booster shot’.

Good lad. While in the U.K. it’s rare to get tetanus/lockjaw (only four people the other year), it’s best to be safe than sorry.

I'm glad you didn't post a picture of your work, because if I were to of given it a thumbs-up, that would of been awkward.

Thanks, I am learning Italian and some of these are the most fun. When it's a cognate but for a word you wouldn't have used in the situation.

Yike! Please don’t say that. I have circular saws, table saws, chainsaws that I use!

There is a creepy Halloween movie plot in there somewhere. Worse than Death Note.

You haven’t learned from your sheet metal interactions?

You just reminded me I don’t seem to learn either. A few years back, I was trimming a fence 4x4 wrestling with a circular saw way over my head. That bound, jumped, and sliced open my jacket. Neurons didn’t fire fast enough to release my finger from the saw trigger. That one could ’ve been so much worse.

British English is full of words that have historical reference/origins to another word that’s still used today, some have lost the meaning why it is, but still accepted as being so.

Take the words fall and Autumn, they were both used almost equally here in the U.K. as they were in the U.S., but the U.S later favoured ‘fall’, we adopted Autumn so as not to sound American. Awkward, but true.

Other words get changed like ‘titbits’, at some point people thought the word ‘tit’ inside a word was vulgar or crass so it got changed through common-usage to ‘tidbits’.

I love words, words like

‘lalocheezia’, which is to swear and curious to relieve stress or frustration.

‘Hypnopompic’, whi ch is the state of consciousness coming out of sleep.

‘Defenestration ’, the act of throwing something out of a window.

Some words don’t travel though, such as ‘fag’, this is a colloquial term here in the U.K. for a cigarette (look up the song, pack up your troubles. It has the lines, ‘pack up your troubles in an old kit bag and smile, smile, smile, while you’ve a Lucifer (match) to light your fag (cigarette), smile boys that’s the style, what’s the use of worrying, it never was worthwhile, so pack up your troubles in an old kit bag and smile, smile, smile’).

While in the U.S. it’s a derogatory term for a homosexual. As is the word ‘faggot’, which in the U.K. is a type of meatball that has some offal in.

Lol. They aren’t bad.

When I say offal, it’s just that it has pork liver in as well and pork.

It's simply pork, pork liver, onions and some spices.

Those are good words. I know hypnogogic, didn’t know about it’s opposite.

I know fenestration, didn’t know defenestration which is not it’s opposite although related.

There’s so many fantastic words.

Another of my favourites is, antidisestablishmentarianism. Which is the opposition of the disestablishment of the Church of England.

Suzie Dent from dictionary corner on Countdown, a TV programme here in the U.K., you may of heard of ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’, which is the comedy version of it.

She always has some amazing words and has just released a book.

She did some videos on YouTube about the origin of swear words, etc...

Another is Qi, often some fantastic words on there.

Trypophobia - I have that. Not a fear for me but a severe disgust.  It prevents me from posting an example photo.

“you may of heard of ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’” - heh, not a chance of having heard of it.

The ‘antidis’ word - I’ve known that for a long time, since college but only to make fun of. N ever actually knew what it meant till I just googled.

I ran it under the tap for a bit. It also bled like stink. Both should help flush bacteria. Hopefully, since it’s too late for the N eosporin now - starting to heal up.
