...never loses his military bearing.

I learned it doesn’t matter if they salute back, as long as you do.
And being/ walking with the most senior officer, means you get to salute less.
oh, and don’t go out with the Warrant Officer’s daughter, though he didn’t find out u ntil later in life after the fact. Lol.

So how long does this interaction take when it’s not in slow motion?
![]() 10/30/2020 at 11:40 |

roughly 1/2 as long.

It seems that Marines and presidential helicopters can make for entertaining videos

you don’t go out with the Governor’s daughter here.
Cuomo is such a Richard Head. His daughter’s 25, for chrissakes.

That was a very human gesture. I’m of two minds about whether the President should return a salute. While it’s a sign of acknowledgement and respect, I was taught never to salute unless in uniform and covered (wearing your uniform hat).

Funny these guys fumbled around with the VA mess for 8 years... and the replacement dude got it fixed inside 6 months.

Eh , the whole president saluting troops is a weird tradition that started and I don’t like it. Yes, the president is the Commander in Chief but they are still a civilian, and that is kinda the point.

Veterans and active duty military can salute in civilian clothes during the raising/lowering/presentation of the colors and the playing of the national anthem, but none of that applies to the president walking to a helicopter, though as commander-in-chief I'd say he falls under a special category.

Meanwhile, in more recent presidential helicopter controversies:
Also, while using military
aircraft as a campaign prop seems less than ideal, the core complaint should be that someone at the Trump c
ampaign really should listen to what the Fortunate Son lyrics actually say, since it’s pretty much an anti-Trump song.

Obama and McCain’s VA Choice Act is a great thing for veterans . Trump’s small update to it was nice too.

Right, but in an era where “certain people” are suggesting that the Pentagon WOULDN’T follow the chain of command, it’s a little gesture of reassurance and mutual respect that reinforces the system works.

Millitary parade/dress/formality stuff is super complicated and varies between branches. As a militaria “buff” I find its best not to go down that particular rabbit hole.

The VA Hospital system was a complete dumpster fire from 2008-2016.
That’s exquisitely well documented.
The White House contempt for the military was o n full display.

Yeah, I only know what I was taught as a U.S. Navy enlisted man. I know, for example, the Navy thing about only when covered isn’t the same in other branches and the whole thing gets all kinds of confused.

That makes sense. Was having a conversation with a marine buddy and that whole "gotta have a hat, cause the salute has to match the brim of the hat, arm fully extended" made me really considerate all the backend bullshit they make soldiers do in the sake of presentation and discipline. Filed under "small things that make me glad I couldn't pass the physical"

Probably don’t want the guy who is tasked with being your body guard to be banging your daughter. It’s not exactly the level of professionalism I would think would be appropriate. While the rule “don’t get naked with the Governor’s daughter” is perhaps not mentioned explicitly, I’d guess it’s implied.
He should have been fired, he got off light.

To turn and nod at the servicemember might be more appropriate, particularly if the POTUS had never served. Then again, they are the commander in chief...

I think you tense if off about White House contempt for the military: you’ve used the past tense rather than the present.

If only they had tried to enact a system where all Americans, regardless of if they served or not, had access to free and comprehensive healthcare.

I couldn’t imagine giving a shit about who my twenty-five year-old daughter was banging.
![]() 10/30/2020 at 13:29 |

I was involved with the VA healthcare system from 2003-2005 and it was just as much of a dumpster fire then.

I think if you can look past the caring about who your daughter is sleeping with to the part where the guy who was supposed to be guarding you was instead spending his time courting your daughter, you might see how the problem isn’t the sex, it was the dere liction of duty and unprofessional conduct.

Courting? What year is this?

Somewhat relevant.

So the politician is ex-Marine? Maybe a gun bunny or an aviator?
![]() 10/30/2020 at 14:08 |

It’s Obama. The guy did the strip back when there was the controversy of the Marine holding an umbrella for the president. People got uppity because holding an umbrella is against regs in that uniform or whatever.
![]() 10/30/2020 at 14:19 |

Oh. I didn’t recognize him as Obama. I don’t remember the story.
![]() 10/30/2020 at 14:33 |

The year doesn’t much matter as the definition hasn’t changed .
![]() 10/30/2020 at 14:41 |

You’re forgetting 2000 through 2008.
![]() 10/30/2020 at 14:59 |

Well documented during that time period, but dumpster fire long before that, too
![]() 10/30/2020 at 15:37 |

It’s not really meant to be like Obama in like ness. More like a movie “based off a true story”
![]() 10/30/2020 at 15:37 |

The fact that the definition hasn’t changed, means the year does matter (hint: it’s ok to just fuck nowadays)
