Willow Springs?

Good question... Does look very desert-y. Maybe the old defunct Riverside track?

That’s kinda fun. I knew for awhile now that Lucas has been a motorsport fan for forever. When they did Episode 1, I remember hearing him comment how he liked open wheel racing and used engine sound samples from F1 and CART at the time, distort them slightly and use for a couple of the pod racers.
His hometown is in Northern California. Actually where I have my shop, San Anselmo. Not too far from Sonoma raceway, really. Under a half hour most days.
I occasionally see him driving around an early NSX with the license plate “PADMEOM” or something.
And I’ve seen him having breakfast at Hilda’s Coffee shop in San Anselmo. I used to go there pretty frequently pre-COVID and when my shop neighbor was also going there. Little breakfast social hour.
Sadly, Hilda’s has been closed for most of the pandemic. Wonder what ol George is doing for breakfast now that his favorite spot is still to this day only open a couple days a week.

It’s Willow Springs. The billboard at the end says Palmdale which is just south of there.

Good find. Curious why Pete Brock was wheeling a Lotus 23 in 1966, must have been just after he quit working for Carroll Shelby.

I could find,
he borrowed it. Under whose direction or if it was
necessity or
choice, unclear.

Now he really sounds like a gear head. The car casting in
American Graffiti
needed to be spot on too.
