I mean, yeah, unless you need it to get you to work.

I mean, let’s be honest, in the long run it’d probably be cheaper than most of the project cars people here have.

WFH right now... so I’m halfway there.
I do wonder why there’s no “Stuck In Traffic Simulator” yet.

Most? Maybe, but definitely some percentage of them.

For $8k, it’s not giving me more than what a good desk mount wheel, pedals and good PC monitors and head tracker would already give you. Don’t see the point.
I know this one is more expensive but if racing sim was a passion of mine...

I know there’s a very significant amount of people that have +$100k cars that could really use this instead of some options like carbon ceramic brakes for example. All the carnage of what I’ve seen of their attempted spirited driving,
they could use the time on one for proper techniques
.

Ha! I think I’d take a season of racing Spec Miata instead.

You think the people who are already shitty drivers are going to take the time to get decent driving a racing sim? Not bloody likely!

They have the money. Just not the brains. That’s life I guess...

The one thing that is frustrating about sim’s, well actually IRacing, is how cars handle at the limit. I find myself basically quitting the sim after a half hour because I spend my time warming tires over 2 laps, then going for it. Have the back hardly step out into what I think I should be able to catch, hit the wall, then get to start back at tire warming. I am an expert tire warmer.

Haha - I’ve never played iRacing, but I assume that’s pretty much what it’s like IRL...

Yeah I don’t disagree...but as a former avid sim guy...imagine unlimited iRacing with that CXC machine.

7500 sim/500 car

There is a lot less crashing. Small slides are easy to catch and dont end up with me wildly out of control. That is my main gripe.

Some of us who live in northern climates would probably get more use out of something like this than an actual sports car.

Oh, would be amazing!
I haven’t gotten in deep to
sim racing (yet). I’d rather not get divorced...

It’s a fair point.

Maybe they’re easier
to recognize (and react to) earlier in a real car with all the “feels”
?

I avoid adding up what I have spent on sim racing. I have a lower end wheel base and don’t yet have a dedicated rig (I still mount to my desk which is less than ideal) but I have still probably spent about $6 k on the hobby. It usually adds up slowly. I started with a G27 that lasted me 10 years before the pedals started acting up and then it just snowballed into nice pedals, then upgrading the wheel, then VR, then an ultrawide monitor, and then next thing you know you have like $5 k in gear. Like any hobby it tends to creep up on you and get out of hand.
That $5k has gotten me 100+ races this year which makes it way more cost effective than real world racing. I will always prefer to be doing real world automotive activities whether they be track time, autocross, or drifting but I find sim racing to be fun and scratches the itch well enough when I can’t be at a real event. It also costs me $0 to break the car in the sim which is nice...

Like anything, it doesn’t seem like as much when you spend it over time.
What were your thoughts on using VR? Wide monitor is preferable?
You’re clearly getting the value out of yours! Might be something I get into once the kids are out of the house. =)

I love VR for sprint racing. The immersion of VR simply can't be beat. That said I have never been able to get my headset perfectly adjusted for me so that I don't get uncomfortable eye strain after 45 minutes to an hour in the headset so I prefer the ultrawide for the endurance races I do every other weekend where I spend 2+ hours at a time in the car. My VR headset wasn't just a sim racing purchase for me and I actually use it more for VR specific games and Star Wars Squadrons than I do for sim racing.

Ah, gotcha.
Which one do you have? Which one would you buy today?

I assume that you are aware that this is the premise of the Bad Obsession Motorsports budget racecar build? That they should be able to race a real car for less than a sim setup?

Ha! Love it.
