I’ll bet they’re good in snow.

I almost bought one of those emblems when I was in Russia, but the guy selling it wanted 5000, which was ~$140 at the time, so I passed.

Supposedly, they are pretty good in snow for an FR layout. There’s still some being used as taxis in Afghanistan, I’ve heard they were about the only 2 wheel drive vehicles that could handle the mountain roads in the dead of winter.
Really good rust proofing for the time, too, definately durable cars.

If I’m gonna drive a GAZ M-21 Volga with that gorgeous leaping stag on the hood, I want the FULL experience. NO Capitalist Pig Toyota V6 for me please. Plus, those wheels are so wrong for that car. Needs baby moon hubcap and steelies with whitewalls, or a chrome slot style like on the 24s or at worst a clean, slab 5-spoke like they put on the 31-series cars.

I kind of want a 4WD Pobeda, if I’m honest.

Very cool to even see one here, but I much rather it be in original form :(

Probeda! I know things about Probedas! :D
@Dash -
Nope, the Probeda was their earlier design (the FSO Warszawa in Poland was a license-built Probeda):

The ‘breadload’ UAZ that you are thinking of is the 452!

Ah yes “loaf of bread will break down where other cars won’t even go!”

No, the Pobeda is the predecessor to the Volga, and they made a bunch of them in 4WD.
Much like the Volga looks kind of like a Stude, the Pobeda looks a little like a Chevy up front, a little like a Pontiac Torpedo from behind.
The 4WD Russian van is the UAZ 452 family. “Buchanka”.

Much like ‘people’s non consumeristic proto-subaru’

Volga does resemble a Stude, I always considered them “Russian Buick” as there is no place for Cadillac in a communist economy. I saw Khrush chev’s Chaika at the Petersen museum. There was also the Zil.

I did a deep dive into the GAZ cars a few years ago... It’s amazing that the late ‘90s 3110 is mechanically so similar to the M-21 from the mid-50s.
