Is that 4th control (far right) just hanging out, doing nothing ? Doesn’t look like there’s a rotisserie or other attachment that would need it.

They can be. I used to work for a company that sold building supplies and the guys out in the warehouse would on occasion race the forklifts. Of course then during such a race one of them ripped the oil pan off from the engine and killed the forklift and both of the guys racing were fired so maybe it’s best that forklifts aren’t Oppo.

It doesn't have anything attached to it. I just started there and have more experience than everyone else combined. When I asked about it they all looked at me like I was crazy. Probably a grabber attached to it long ago

I submit that rear wheel steering makes the inherently Oppo just due to the oddity of it.
Also, my sister drives a forklift. I’ll have to ask her what kind she has.

Ha. The one I learned on years ago went fast as shit. When you hit top speed the dead man brake wouldn't catch for a couple seconds. I had to change my shorts when I found that out.

I really liked driving fork lift. The smug feeling you get when you have it mastered and can park a pallet of Pepsi into a hole 15 feet up with only 1/2" to spare on each side. Those were the days.
I did have a co-worker mess it up one day and dented several thousand cans of pepsi. We had to break the cans and drain it down the sewer.

I've driven quite a few and this is the first Nissan I've seen. Rear steer is pretty fun though.

Hydraulic fork spreaders (no clue what the official term is) are fancy, but I’ve never seen them on your average 5-6000# capacity fork truck .
( Also, Noodles said it’s not attached to anything .)

The Toyotas at the Yamaha factory were mostly all hydraulic spreaders. The CATs at CAT were garbage, broken more than they were operational, and no spreaders

I can only assume there was a regular need for that function . None of the Toyota lifts I’ve used were so equipped (but use of the fourth control for a rotisserie or bin-dumping attachment is extremely common in wineries, where the majority of my forklift experience has been ).

I’ve worked in a few places with side grabbers. Not sure what they’re called but it’s for grabbing the sides of a giant roll of paper or there was a home insulation company that used em because their insulation on a pallet was wobbly as shit

I’ve spent a lot of time driving an old forklift that had an inline 6 gas engine with 4 speed manual, both forward and reverse. It was a mean machine.

Mine is the 1FZ-FE. The difference is an Iron head not allow, plus different tuning for low redlines (2350 rpm...ha). 84 furious HP at 2350

This was certainly old, but it was actually out biggest forklift rated for 3 tons. Our other two forklifts were electric and smaller. The fact that all three were wildly different and different to operate made us proud of our *frequent* synchronized forklift driving to move giant hydraulic cylinders from cranes and the like that were much too large to move with a single forklift. OSHA would not have approved.

I’m familiar with that game. We once unloaded a 120’ crated replacement ballscrew off a trailer and into a building using 5 very different forklifts of varying sizes. It was a “scenario”. The 90° pivoting was really something to watch as everyone struggled to maintain their own radii . Each forklift had one driver and one dedicated spotter. There were also about 5 other spotters. If anybody yelled STOP we all would yell stop and come to a slow metered stop. No jerky motions allowed. The spotters we quite good at passing instructions along the line so we the operators could focus on our own section and obstacles. There were many pickups and put downs involved. And once inside some forklifts were exchanged for hoists with spreader bars.

This is true. Norma knocked over 10 pallets of 5 gallon buckets on her last day. That’s 36x5x10 gallons of primer in the middle of the loading dock.
1800 gallons of primer every fucking where.

I’ve done a few forklift burnouts in my day. Very Oppo.
Those things are tough as nails. I drove a Nissan forklift for a few years. I slammed that shift lever, at full speed, from reverse to forward countless times and it never skipped a beat.

Here’s what I’ve got to play with at work
The propane lift is a Doosan. Poor thing has been beat on so badly, I’m amazed it works as well as it does. We’ve also got another Raymond order picker, same model as the one pictured but 10 years older. It has a circuit board problem where it thinks the battery is dead after 2 or 3 hours running, so you have to charge it once or twice a day. Oh and a quite old Clark order picker that we use as an elevator

Most of our 5k and heavier lifts have fork spreaders on them. If you have the means, it is very choice.

The forklifts I work on feature things like Mazda 2.0s and 2.2s, GM 2.2s, 2.4s, and 4.3s.
I’ve had to pull out two 4.3s in the past 2 months
and replace the flywheel because people ruin the ring gears on them somehow.
