Always good to have a reminder of how bad big box store level bikes are.
In any event, my first bike was a Kent:
(as you can see, the ‘80s were good times...)

I’m pretty sure I’ve ridden this exact bike, but not in AMD trim
Do you think it’ll overclock?

Ha, sorta hoped you were going to say you owned one of the ubiquitously awful TREK from the 90's. This design has a backstory I won’t go into as it’s pretty awful too.
None of them were ever safe to ride. A little thinkin’ and enginn erding should scare about anyone straight on riding one. Synopsis is department store version are built to soft fail. U nlike fancy bike stores ones with good parts that failed spectacularly under trained riders believing it a highly functional bicycle.

This sounds political. Thus unsavory.

Wondrous as that photo is. I’m amazed at that bike helmet in that time period. T hey were not a done thing well into the 90's and certainly not in youth sizes.

Not the most stylish. Circa four years later, it broke in a freak accident and my parents accused me of doing it on purpose to be rid of the thing. In reality I had been walking the bike with the helmet perched on the saddle, and somehow the chin-strap hook caught on a rear wheel spoke. With disturbingly little effort the shell (which was as thick as you’d expect looking at it) got ripped in half. It got replaced by something that would look relatively normal today, light, aerodynamic, and well-vented (I think my parents splurged a bit to get me one cool enough I wouldn’t break it “on purpose”, even though it really was an accident) .

4 years and it still fit?
That is well past the usable lifespan of a helmet back then anyways. It broke because the materials degrade that badly. False sense of security can be a real thing.

Yeah, I may have the timing a little off, but as you can see it’s pretty big on me there (I think we did switch the pads to the thinner ones it came with at some point, which bought a lot of space, I’m sure Bell knew that kids grow a lot) . But yeah, I would not be at all shocked if it s age contributed to its sudden destruction.

Nah I only posted that because I’m pretty sure it’s an exact match. And no, fortunately , I never owned one of those Treks. I have ridden one and it wasn’t amazing.
