A colleague whose cars I’ve looked after for the last for the last several years and was interested in a white car next.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Well, things changed and she changed it a little sooner than was hoped.
Some idiot scratched her car with his in a car park and put a little dent in it.
Well she fell out of love with it and got her new car last Monday. A 2018 Nissan Qashqai in gunmetal grey and she loves it.
Not sure about engine, etc... as I’ve not been to see it yet in this weather.
But looking at a similar one on Autotrader. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it.
So she didn’t go for a white one.

That’s all I needed to see.

Wikipedia”
“ Nissan named the vehicle after the Qashqai people , who live in mountainous Central and Southwestern Iran ”
“ The designers believe that the buyers “will be nomadic in nature too”. The new unconventional name was however met with surprise and even skepticism”
What is up with car companies naming crossovers after middle eastern tribes?

Seems like kind of a step down from a nice Volvo but I don’t know. Not a terribly interesting car other than the oddity of a manual transmission in a crossover, something that happens extremely rarely in the US.

What IS that thing?

I heard
appropriation wasn’t so hot these days.

Or after places where they can’t legally be sold, like the Skoda Kodiaq and VW California.

Most crossovers here are manual, though autos are creeping in, especially with the inclusion of electric cars.
She wanted something eas ier to get her grand daughter in and out of after finding the rear of the Volvo a little too confined.

I suppose it makes sense. When you’re trying to put someone in the back of a vehicle a more upright seating position is beneficial. The Qashqai is just a little dreary though.

I’m assuming you mean the Tuareg? They are mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
I’m genuinely curious if there are others as well.

Yeah that’s what I meant. they’re in Liyba as well which, for me, is near enough to the middle east.

Not sure on the spec as yet either so it could be those, or
similar to main post but part leather

Maybe dreary, but there are good prices to be had. A 2018 going for £15 ,000 to £20,000 before discount has been asked for with new ones often having £3,000 to £7,000 discount, it’s easy to get some of the nearly new cars knocked down a bit.

cash-key? cash-kay? What the fuck were you thinking? 2 ‘ Q’ s an no ‘ U’ s? as bad as VW and the touaerauegiy ue.

My wife does some work in Africa and she brought back a Tuareg rug one time. It’s very nice and proudly occupies the middle of our l iving room. I always tell people it was woven in the back of a VW SUV .
Also , I just had a great idea. VW ought to contract out to the Tuareg tribes to produce seat cloth inserts . Give the Touareg some authentic cachet.

i ’m having trouble deciding if it is better or worse than the prevalence of native american names that have been used by car companies here. It’s all kind of “oof”

The Touaregs are nomadic and comes from the Sahara desert which checks out for an off-road vehicle .
Plus, it’s not too difficult to write and pronounce in most “ western” languages.
Always felt like a good name to me, better than a X5 or a GLE anyway :)
