I tried watching "Car Trek", but I couldn't make it past the first episode. Just because it's three guys and weird cars doesn't mean it has to be a knockoff Top Gear.

Maybe because top gear poisoned it for me with their total disregard for the proper care of the cars they bought? The infamous Argentina special is why I cant watch those three anymore. I would have given my left nut for that lotus.

This bothered me as well. I like hoovie, can’t stand Tavarish, and have no idea who the other guy is, but would have watched if it wasn’t a complete and total top gear knockoff. Even the logo and the intro felt like they were effectively a direct copy. I watched about the first 5-10 minutes of the one with the cheap italian supercars (wow, that’s never been done before) and turned it off when they were doing the thing where they pull up one at a time and make fun of each other’s cars.

It’s probably not that bad, but I have limited time to watch tv so I'll probably never make it through one of these.

I subscribed to Motor Trend’s streaming platform in order to watch LeMans, then found that they have all of the original top gears seasons. I have started watching through and its amazing all over again. I have never been able to get into the newer iterations or the Grand Tour.

Even the “all standing around in a Car Park flinging shit at each others’ cars” works in Top Gear because it feels like The Lads might have some relationship or bond.

I can’t imagine the Ed and Hoovie would even want to be in the same room IRL.

I have nothing against the individuals involved and I especially watch every Tyler Hoover video, but I couldn’t finish the Car Trek episode Hoover published on his channel three weeks ago.
At first I thought they were merely paying homage to May, Hammond and Clarkson. But half an hour in I realised they were dead serious and I suspected them to use the now tired tropes Top Gear made famous for the whole episode.

I don’t mind copying the Top Gear style, but in order to get away with a shameless rip off the ideas and script have to absolutely on point. I’d like to see a well meaning, funny, over the top parody of the tropes. Both approaches are very hard to do.though. Sadly they failed because the script was clunky and stale. That’s not a surprise because it took the Top Gear crew years to perfect the formula and they had some of the best writers in the business and a huge budget. And it must be said that even they struggled to keep the quality and fun up.

That being said: Freddy, Tyler and Ed have years of experience in content creation and probably a network of creative people to draw from. I’d love to see them finding and perfecting their own style. I’m pretty sure they would have something to offer if they tried.

I signed up on father's day for $2/mo sans commercials. I like to watch some of their shows once in a while and occasionally revisit an old top gear, so that was worth $24 bucks for the year to me
