Driving down to pick up car parts and spotted a new Defender. This one was pretty kitted out, including some sort of growth on the passenger side rear.

I’d need to get around one more... but first impression is... not great. It sort of has a “concept brought to life (by accountants).” The back is just a little to fussy... but also sort of sedate? Maybe in a more exciting color, or black, it would do more for me.
Any idea what the growth on the side is?

Yeah I have gotten a good look at a couple around here, it just looks like one piece of cladding. I even think I saw some warping in the plastic panels on the back.

I prefer the Defender commercial vehicle version

I saw one of these today as well , and my impression was that it looks considerably worse in person than in photographs . It had that stupid thing on the right rear side, too. A deformed FJ Cruiser is what it brought to mind.

Yup, it’s called the “ Exterior Side-Mounted Gear Carrier”.

I saw a new Defender the other day....first one I’ve seen in person. I’m....not a fan. It looks like one of those ‘mean Jeeps’ that was instead just made at the factory to me. Sortof bland and overdone and too-chunky at the same time....

I’m curious how his business is going, mid-COVID?
LA’s such a hodge-podge right now. You can’t give away what were $2M condos in DTLA at the moment, but a “safe” community like Palisades or MDR will get a dozen full-price house offers over a weekend. I couldn’t believe the number of CA license plates in Park City again the other day. This used to be “slack” season between summer vacation and ski time— but all these mountain towns are full of refugees. Lexus-driving refugees... mostly WFH’ing I guess.

I’m not a fan of the Defender butt. I find it simultaneously kinda 90’s blobby and early 00’s minimalist. No like. I’m okay with the front and side views and vastly prefer the 2 door version. I initially thought the little side pod thing was neat and then saw how useless it actually is. I’d be concerned with it getting smashed off.

DoTS defender. Seen a few now. Funny watching the squat and accelerate on the highway. Also they are a bigger than they look in pictures
