Please refer to Doggo at Fur Face Friday. I did a little looking around on my way back to the highway when I went to Santa Rosa early this morning . I had to go to a final interview, which consisted of standing in a parking lot with three people. But they said I could work there, they have full benefits etc.. so it seems like the smart thing to do until we see how the world will end up. My friend and I both have degrees and they kept talking about hiring from within and how they like to have people with experience in the field promoted so they have an idea of what goes on. They rushed me through all of this, I have to do a physical test kind of like our union afraid of heights test haha. The Italian Miata was a metallic brown and had fog lights, coolest one of those I’ve seen. People bought some of those when they came out and then I just stopped seeing them around, I’ve seen two in the pas t month.

Thanks, yeah it’s good for what we need to do, I like being off but it’s not fun to be off when you are uncertain about things... I’ll take surfing and hiking any day!

What is that? Not an Austin America, is it? Tail lights look different.

That mid-50s Ford truck...I need so many parts....

I was thinking Austin. I kind of remember someone on Top Gear saying those are the thinking mans Mini.

It seemed like a lot of truck shells up there, very different kind of vibe than down by me.

It’s an ADO16 of
some sort
for sure. Co
uld be Austin, Morris, MG, Wolesley... BMC badge-engineering at its finest. Fun little cars to drive.

Congrats! And damn, that C6 is THICCCC

Nice Austin America. You really don’t see those anywhere. They’re pretty good looking too.
Congratulations on the job.

I’ve heard they’re kind of slow and like to turn even less than a Mini. I still would like one... and a Mini, and a Maxi, maybe an Elf, a wagon...

Congrats on the job!

I’ve driven two: an MG 1300 with a 4 speed manual, and an Austin America with an automatic. The MG was fine on power, drove a lot like an old Rabbit or Civic. The America was almost comically
slow, but it didn’t feel weak; just... stately,
like a Mercedes 240D:
“Just sit back
, we’ll get there eventually.”
But it’s just an A-series engine, so plenty of speed parts available, if that’s your thing.

I’m not super familiar with the big cars. Did all the AD016s have the hydrolastic suspension? It’s always seemed interesting to me but more complicated than necessary.

Happy for you!

Congrats on the job. The Swedish barber must have done a good job.
I still like the Miata styling over the Fiata’s but the balance has been tipping toward the Italian a bit. Plus, they’ll be cheaper to get.

congrats on the new gig! i know the tradeshow world is still crazy shaky, i don’t see it coming back in the next 6-12 months, especially not as it was. i switched industries entirely, my SO is doing the same.

Pretty sure they all did. They might have changed to that gas-charged setup for the later ones, but the ones I drove were hydrolastic.

Yeah well I don’t have much of a choice when the medical ends, I either pay or do something else. It could be a while before that industry gets back up, I was tired of the schedule and lack of giving a shit by our bosses too though. I may only go back for some dispatches on huge shows to add to my pension pot and make some extra cash if I have a project. What I enjoy about that job is a small percentage of the whole picture. We will see how this new job is, I can always go back to the other job, my number will keep getting lower. Someday with a number under 100 I can be one of the older guys who comes and goes as they please and doesn’t give a fuck! So unds good.

I love the current Miata, I did the Land/Jaaaag booth next to them at the auto show the year it came out, I kept going over and sitting in the Miata haha. I just liked how that car looked in that metallic brown with the rally lights, it really reminded me of the old Fiat coupe.
My barber has some cool stories, they sailed all over the world... messed with Russians, crazy days. He was telling me about how they played a soccer match against the Namibian soldiers when they stopped there.

Well done on the new job!
And I don’t know why I’m just noticing it, but the OEM tail pipes on the Fiat 124 look massive. Like, too big for the car massive.

Thanks. Is there a performance edition of the Fiat? It could be just dual with twin tips to look aggressive I guess.

Yep, they do have an Abarth version, which is what this one appears to be.
Maybe this is also an aftermarket exhaust as well.
![]() 10/23/2020 at 19:14 |

Yeah probably aftermarket, anyone who installs rally lights on one is a Jalop of some sort.

That Tempest wagon would ma ke a nice cruiser.

It could be, but definitely an ADO16. Seeing the front would help. (My mom had an America. Bought it new. Didn’t last long, the transmission went. Cool little car, though.)
