The new electric-only 500 is going to be available as a three door. No, not two doors and a hatch. Literally three doors like the Hyundai whatsit.

o I see that I’m the second to post about this! The more the merrier and all that.
Still bugger all room in the back though.
Yes, it is a new car despite looking like the current one, which continues with an engine.

Well that is helpful, seems like a plus for those as a DD.

Looks like the same setup as my old Saturn coupe, except on the other side. It was handy to get the dogs in and out of the back seat
. We actually referred to it as the “dog door.”

I basically call cars with these kind of doors what one would call trucks with them...extended cab. :D

It has similar styling, but it is noticeably different than the current ‘normal’ one...to me anyway! I think keeping it similar-looking was a good call though, brand identity...similar to the current Mini.
Also, great minds think alike! :D

Couldnt they have kept it a 2-door and just made the door on that side longer?

you mean like they did on the Pacer

It was much more cost effective - one less door structure and panel to tool for, one less pane of glass to seal, one less set of hinges. The hardest part is just making sure the remaining hinges are strong enough to last the warranty period without sagging.

Easier to load the dog!
Thanks, I love it.

I could fit in the back of my 500 even with the front seat all the way back. It wasn’t exactly comfortable, obviously, but it was more pleasant than the back seat of my stepdad’s 1984 300ZX 2+2 was when I was growing up.

I like it, though not in that color. I’m seriously thinking electric for my next car. So not coming to the US though?

humorously, the Pacer kept the same body shell in RHD countries. So it had a large drivers door and a small passengers door there

Same with the old MINI Clubman - the Club Door ™ was on the passenger side for LHD countries, since the car was primarily designed for the US market, despite being ostensibly "British" , leaving passengers to exit on the traffic side in RHD countries.

Not at the moment, no.

They could, but I guess the longer door
would have made getting in and out challenging if parked
between two other cars.

Was it ever made in RHD though? I think they were sold in tiny numbers in
the UK with a conversion. The column stayed on the left but the wheel was linked to it by a chain under the dash.

New platform but similar body I think. It’s slightly bigger.

That’s an interesting way to do a RHD conversion.
Most of Europe got the Pacer, but I suppose England would be the only RHD market
