My grandfather drove GMC trucks and Chrysler sedans, religiously. One year, for some reason, he bought a red Matador sedan. He hated it. I remember visiting him and all he did was complain about it. I don’t think he kept it for more than a year before going back to a Chrysler.

And some of what’s said can imply something else at the same time!

AMC wasn’t capable of producing the highest quality automobiles, they j ust didn’t have engineering funds to do so. They could be powerful, they could durable but they would never be great. I owned 2 AMC J avelins in my youth, as well as an AMC powered International pickup. They are all responsible for giving me an accelerated course in auto repair.

Newport 440 IINM.

One of his pickups had a big block and got like 6 MPG. I remember him complaining about that . Black with a red interior, IIRC. And he carried us all over Somerset County in the back of those pickups. The Highway Patrol would love to catch him doing that well into this  century...
