Break up Apple

Apple TV Plus will be getting the beloved Peanuts Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday specials added to its catalog this year, and they’ll each be available for free to non-subscribers for a short period of time.
The Halloween special, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, will be hitting Apple TV Plus today for subscribers and will be available for free from October 30th until November 1st. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will be available on November 18th and watchable for free from November 25th until November 27th. And my personal favorite, A Charlie Brown Christmas, will be out on December 4th and can be watched for free from December 11th through December 13th.

Roku now has an Apple TV channel app, which lets you watch your ordinary Apple TV content, as well as Apple TV+, on your Roku player. However, not all Roku players are compatible with the Apple TV channel app. To watch Apple TV on your Roku, add the channel from the Roku channel store.
Can get it through a Fire Stick and with some smart TVs, too.
So complicated...

I’m just surprised that it’s not Disney+ that is doing this.

It is complicated, and frustratingly so. I was watching HBO on my Roku TV, but it seemed to have less content than the full-on HBO streaming thing that came through my computer. I just don’t know. I cut the cord, but now I’m signed up to so many different services that I’m pretty much back to where I was when I was paying for cable.

Screw cable! Cut the cord!
FREEDOM!!
[proceed to pay just as much or more for every last streaming service...]

Amazon Prime: $12/mo
CBS all access $5/mo
Disney +:5.99/mo
Netflix: $14/mo
about $37/month
Still way less than cable and no commercials.

Hulu, ESPN+, and Disney bundled for $13/mo

That’s barely even lukewarm. I haven’t laughed at any Peanuts humor in 35 years.

Before I had cable+internet and we use the internet for school/work/etc.... so I assume that everyone are already has an internet service for home anyway.
![]() 10/20/2020 at 18:12 |

But cable and internet is like $10 more than just internet unless you want to switch providers after every introductory period is over. Comcast sucks.

I assumed it was being removed because it had some racist or sexist thing that didn’t bother anyone 40 years ago but can’t be shown on tv anymore
![]() 10/20/2020 at 18:31 |

In our case, we’ve been paying ~$45/mo for 75 heckabits of internet and for the entire quarantine, the service has been 100% reliable and adequate to support three simultaneous Zoom connections out of my house. 100%.
In my opinion, it’s channel packages that suck. I’ve no use for any of it. My brother Ttyymmnn has large ESPN needs, so he’s in a different situation. Also, my three adult children use Spotify, Disney Plus and Netflix — and T-mobile — that we pay for. And there’s YouTube that we use quite a bit, and Amazon Prime. My wife and I figure that if we can’t find anything to watch out of all of that offering, then we ought to go read a book or snuggle or something. And Netflix? We keep coming back to The Great British Baking Show. Then again also, we might be like 25 years older than you are (We’re 56 and 58...). And what really riles me about those cable packages is that you need to upgrade to be able watch on an HDMI cable. Outrageous for that to be the case in 2020.
So yeah. I used to love to hate Comcast, but they have really had my back this year.

I’ve never really understood charlie brown, he’s lame and a dweeb, and doesn’t seem to ever learn or mature or do anything actually interesting.
I however really like Calvin.

I have it on DVD.

I’ve torrented one or more Charlie Brown holiday things over the years so my wife can watch them on their respective holidays, except sometimes halfway thru she gets tired of them and wants to stop. It’s like a tradition for her that she wants to do because of the tradition, but doesn’t actually want to see to the end.
![]() 10/20/2020 at 19:05 |

That’s what we’ve got.

Exactly what happens with me and the original Rankin Bass Rudolph. We have that on DVD, though, and I force my boys to sit all the way through.

Who watches broadcast TV for something other than sports, maybe news?
Also, it’s free on YouTube (u ntil Apple sues to have it removed) . It’s in parts to avoid detection....

You are correct. However, A Charlie Brown Christmas is life.
![]() 10/20/2020 at 19:43 |

Comcast indeed sucks. I’m paying a small fortune for internet only. So when it’s “just” X bucks more for whatever cable package, I say fuck that, they’ve already factored in their costs of a low-charge “ upgrade” by making the internet extremely overpriced for what you get on the front end .
![]() 10/20/2020 at 19:48 |

Fair. I figured I’d just enjoy access to my racing stuff while I get through this contract. We actually have some start-up internet options in Denver now so I’m going to try one of those next (provided they still exist in a few more months, anyway).
![]() 10/20/2020 at 19:52 |

My last internet-only package was $75 to start but then it was $110 and then it kept going up from there. Added cable, got F1, Indycar, NASCAR, MotoGP, and then Michelin had a promotion to get IMSA trackpass for free. Hopefully once my contract is up, F1TV works correctly and I’ll go back to just internet again and buy all the sports separately.

Holy. Shit. I have the dvd, so I don't actually care, but yeah, I care. This is ridiculous. It's a goddamn institution

*Unhinged conspiracy theory*
I’m starting to think capitalism will inevitably lead to communism, not through any kind of revolution, but by companies ultimately getting to the point were they don’t actually sell to you goods and services, but make everything a subscription, lease, or rent. Everyone will make enough to money to live through “gopher apps” like Uber and what not and no individual will actually own anything, just pay for various subscriptions month to month and be broke at the end.

I'm old school like that. I like having physical copies of things I care about. The DVD has all the classic Peanuts specials on it, and I think it was like $8.
