With the SA2020 Helmets now available and my SA2010 Open- face Impact helmet looking a bit worse for wear, I’m beginning my quest for a new helmet. I’m keeping an open mind on what to get, but I’ve narrowed down the criteria:
Must be full-face
M ust be glasses friendly, I don’t wear contacts
Must be Snell SA2020 (because I wants the latest and greatest safety I can gets, ya hear)
I have a large to extra-large , Eastern-European egg noggin
Want to keep it under $1,000
I like the looks of the HJC HX-10 III Carbon as it’s got the large eye port and should be fairly light, but I have no idea what their quality is like. Any suggestions or other thoughts out there?

I have a long, narrow-ish face and head, and am planning on purchasing a HJC helmet next year of autocrossing is a thing again. I've tried it on and it fits well for that face and head shape (can't comment on glasses), and quality was at least comparable to Bell if not better

I got an HJC AR10 III last year and loved it so much now 3 more friends have them. They work great with sunglasses but one friend wears regular glasses as well and this helmet works for her. Now, that’s a $300 base helmet, I'd expect the carbon version is about the same fitment but much lighter.

I haven’t seen hardly any SA2020 online yet buy you can get some screaming deals on SA2015. Probably in anticipation of the 2020's coming on the market.

I’ve been wearing Shoei
helmets for 20 years. I currently have a Neotec I that has been great. I have an oval head and Shoei’s helmets
are the ones that have always fit better. I’ve had HJC helmets and they are a good option but Shoei’s fit and comfort are worth paying the premium for
. Also, if you
are
thinking of doing off road riding, the Shoei Hornet line is a good option for both
on
and off road use.

I’ve long worn of G-Force helmets. Good SA rated helmets, reasonable price and they fit my egg-shaped noggin well. How a brand fits your head shape is the important way to shop helmets.

How long are you intending to wear the helmet at a given time? How often will you see high speeds? Is it just for autocross or trackdays?
These are all things to consider. For an autocross helmet, I wouldn’t spend that much on one. If you are going to the track, maybe consider something higher end. Honestly though, the fit is more important than the brand.
Shoei and Arai are top dogs in bike helmets, those are rated SM. There is a slight difference between SA and SM. I believe SM has a greater field of view. You can use an SM in autocross, at least when I ran it you could. Check your local track rules.
Given your prodigious budget, go to a local shop and stick them on your head. Nothing beats test fitting a helmet in store. Fit matters more than brand.
I currently use a Shoei RF-1200 and love it to death. I also had a no name Snell rated helmet that only cost 150 and loved it. I had an AGV that I though was garbage.
Bell is okay from what I’ve heard . Hell, I’ve run a Pyrotect at one point. It did the job but was uncomfortable. That was my fault though.
Happy shopping!

Thats the one I'm going to grab. Hoping to pick up a deal on a 2015 cert if they're still around when I'm ready

Autocross, karting (covid permiting), and possibly track . Yes I am aware that you can run SM while autocrossing, but the main difference is nomex for the SA for fire retardancy, and I want the fire rating.

My gf just got her 2015 for $280 I think so like 15% off? That was a month ago though so maybe you can do better. Try HMS Motorsports if you don’t know a better place, they’re incredible with customer service and keep lots of stock.

Thanks for the recommendation! I got a local shop that I probably should buy from, though I've noticed that they also have an Amazon storefront, so that might be how I go. But, a deal is a deal, so I'll definitely shop around
