We didn’t get those here, as you probably know. I find it interesting that Toyota gave us the wagon/hatch hybrid Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe that was its own thing.
I guess it needed to be larger to really sell a Corolla hatch here and they had to create new tooling anyways to build it at the NUMMI Plant.

They are not common at all here, i did only find it by searching on Google the last time :)

So is it just that no one buys Corollas or is it that they buy a different body style? Because there is a Corolla sedan on every corner anywhere in the US. The gen 1 not-a-Corolla hatchback wagon things are reasonably uncommon and the second gen Matrix sold very poorly compared to the first.
Then you have the Scion/Toyota iM which also was a Corolla hatchback under a different name that no one bought. Shame, since they were good cats even if Toyota never took a hint and gave them a properly middling engine. They always give their hatches here pokey old NA 4s tuned to produce only a few ponies over a long period of time. We NEVER got even lukewarm hatches here.

Toyota has never been a huge player here, the Yaris always did well because it’s made here and also hybrids because they were the first on the market but Corollas and Auris were never common.
T hey were the 6th best selling brand last year in France .

That’s not bad at all, especially when you see their 100,000 French sales in 2019 vs 30,000 for Suxuki, SEAT, Skoda, and a whole lot of other smaller players. I wonder how many of those are Yari.
Is the Auris just a hybrid Corolla? Sure looks like it.
And the top US brands are pretty different. Ford, Honda, Toyota, and Chevy are the only ones to crack 100,000 sales per month with Nissan very close behind.
A lot of the top brands in France aren’t even sold here.

The Yaris was ~43000/102000 personal vehicule sold in 2019 by Toyota in France, so around 42% .
And it seems that for the 9 first 2020 months they did better than VW and are the 5th best selling brand , you also have the number of diesels sold per brand on this PDF, with a total of 31% of brand new cars being diesel.

That list reveals some very interesting statistics.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Chevy managed to sell
one
car in 2020 thus far. Hahahahahahaha.
In finiti managed to sell one car in 2020 thus far. I’m not surprised.
Maserati managed to sell 48 cars in 2020 thus far. Big oof.
Subaru has sold 83 cars. That’s more than I expected to be honest.
Ssangyong has sold 78, somehow worse than Subaru.
And Lexus has sold nearly 5,000 cars. I’m surprised.

Some companies seem to be so much worse off than others due to the pandemic. And that’s way more Jeep sales than I expected.

I believe that most of the Jeep are the Renegade and Compass which are based on the FLAT 500X.
I believe that Lexus is doing relatively well because they sell exclusively hybrids and an electric but i don’t remember ever seeing one of their current cars .
I didn’t know the Ssangyong still sold cars here but it seems to be, their official website is a Wordpress with less than 10 pages (including 2 or 3 404) and list prices and options... in a PDF ...
ps: Subaru sells 7 different models... so they sold more than 1 model per month so far , nice !
And Infiniti has been discontinued in Europe ; Chevy website title is “ Chevrolet France: Voitures de Sport Américaines” and it only lists the C8 but without a clear info on it’s availability or price .

Oh I didn’t know Ssangyong and Infiniti had left the market but I had an inkling based on those sales figures. Makes you wonder about who bought a brand new Chevy this year too. And haha listing prices on a PDF. It’s like they’re not trying (which maybe they aren’t).
I’m surprised at how many models Lexus is selling. And you guys still can buy the CT 200H? That was a flop in the US market enough for it to be discontinued years ago I think. Looks like 2014-2018 but they’re uncommon enough I’m not sure.
I’m surprised that Chevy will apparently bring the C8 there, probably having to bake carbon tax penalties into the price.
BTW I've read up on Jacques Tati and I really want to watch some of his films. Seems like the actual words spoken aren't often important but maybe I could get subtitles.
