I hate dealing with this so much so I set the price at “you can buy it from the junkyard next week”

Here’s the ad in case you missed: I got two replies from folks who enjoyed the ad, but werenot looking for an 07 nitro.

Do you want the utility of a Jeep but the impracticality of 2WD in an SUV? Like Jeeps but wish they were styled by Nickleback after a rough night out? Then this is the car for you! It’s the ‘07 Nitro everyone has been talking about. Will trade for a case of monster energy, dirt bikes that don’t run or one of those sports illustrated football phones (but not really).

2007 Dodge Nitro, 2wd 6 speed Manual. Selling my 07 Nitro, it has 265,000 km, water pump is leaking, but may be an intake or head gasket issue causing the problem. Drove for 3 years and 100,000 km without issue, it’s cheap because I think there’s something wrong with it, Don’t know exactly what. I quit driving it 2 weeks ago. Runs and drives great. It is a manual trans, not a flappy paddle, the clutchy-shifty kind with 3 pedals like in the movies. Its a 6 speed so you can shift it a bunch of times in a row like in the movies. It is rear wheel drive like in the movies. It gets better fuel mileage than a train. Cold air, hot heat, power windows and locks, 110v outlet, traction and skid control. Goes like hell, got 3 tickets at high speeds. Parked it when I saw the coolant leak, has not overheated. Numbers matching, gluten free, as you know, Dodge only makes rare and valuable Vehicles, so this is sure to skyrocket in value any day now. Actually hand built by Jebediah Dodge in Toledo Ohio in 2007, and he fell to his knees and cried at the perfection of the base model Nitro. Car is actually dead-nuts reliable, but will need that gasket looked at. Or since it’s cheap, drive it into the ground. It’s not dead yet. I can answer any questions but the whole sarcastic truth is laid out in the ad. $1000 firm.

I love buying shitboxes. I love driving them. Working on them, throwing junkyard parts at them, beating on them, breaking them, fixing them again, doing stupid stuff with them because it doesn’t matter, all that. You know what I hate about shitboxes?

Selling them.

You can list a running and driving car for $700, say price firm, no trades, and still people will message with lowball offers, shitty trades, and ask if they can make payments.

After a few weeks I usually get tired of people offering $500 and say sure, fuck it. Yeah, I’ll take $500. So the next $500 offer I’ll accept, and oh no, they stop replying!

I hate selling shitboxes.

Me too, I wouldn’t sell it to a young girl with 4 kids because it is not a good car for her. I’ve got friends with bad ideas who will take it for $500. So Price is the price unless you want to fish it out of the lake. I also expect people to show up and say “ I can’t drive this! you never said it was a stick.”

I also try not to sell the really bad crapcans to people who are going to be put in a bad place by them. Back when I had a copart focus that I listed for 1200, a grandma messaged and said she needed a car to haul her three grandkids around and really needed a reliable car... I was split between taking her 1200 and being done with it and knowing it wasn’t going to be a good car for her and telling her that it wasn’t going to be the reliable kid hauler she needed.

I ended up selling it a few weeks later to someone who needed a beater for $900. I still see it driving around town every few months, so maybe I should have taken that 1200.

I think you did the right thing not selling it to that lady. I wouldn’t fault you if you did sell it to her, but she would have been over her head quickly.

Years ago I was selling a chevette for $400, It was a bad car that I had repainted and added some tasteful speed holes to. It was a car I blew multiple head gaskets in and habitually dumped the clutch at 7,000 rpm (5,200 redline) Just trying to kill it, it wouldn’t die but you had to change the oil every week, it had been siezed due to not enough oil and too much hot. It just wouldn’t die. But it looked sharp with shiny chrome and torch red paint. I had to turn away several people wanting a cheap cute car for their daughter. It still looked sharp on the crusher pile when I saw it again ten years later.

My personal feelings are that if you have kids in the car with you, that car should at least have functional airbags. I wasn’t sure that was the case here.

I al most always have a manual car, and people are almost always surprised when they see it despite it being stated 4 times in the ad. I also want to come across as a bit of a jerk in the ad so they’re not surprised when I’m a bit of a jerk.

same guys that pushed it home pushed it down the alley next day, dumped clutch, and away she went. Had to complete left turns before the smoke caught up to you after that though. ( somewhere there is video of this car vaping coolant into sick clouds). I repeat, it would NOT die.

Have gotten multiple offers involving Monster energy, but its a whole flat of tall cans or no deal. ( I don’t know what it tastes like, I’m assuming ‘green’) might also tak e a ga ll on of axe body spray, as the factory reservoir has run out.
