Miata broke, BMW broke, it also looks like my Yamaha two stroke is a lost cause. And my washing machine decided to stop working yesterday. wonderful.

I was going to post an obligatory video of Bob Dylan’s Everything Is Broken but he must have some pretty hellacious lawyers so here is a cover version.

What’s up with the Yamaha? Still the same problem from before which I don’t remember what it was? (will watch video later)

Didn’t mention it in the video. Found out it has super low compression. Put some diesel in the cylinder in hopes I could free up the rings, then yesterday I went to start it and now it has no fucking spark again. Swapped back to the original points, still nothing. Dunno whats up. I can’t get any signs of life out of the damn thing.

Well that’s irritating. Hopefully the rings free up on you, if the diesel doesn’t work it’s super easy to pull the head and piston and let it soak in a bucket of carb cleaner. It would be fun to see it running, I’ve always liked these old Yamaha enduros.

The washing machine may be a loss, but if you could just get something in the garage running, you could do laundry:

that engine is ki nda an orphan because it’s not used much in vintage racing, I found similar prices. on some forums i see they have used a factory setup from later models that came from the factory. i have had success in some of these forums in the past, “fans of [insert your bike]” in searches, maybe also, “retrofit later ignition yamaha 175" search. apparently that engine doesn’t use a similar setup as the 125, there are plenty of kits for those that are half the price or less. I just realized I have an old 175 that might have the later ignition, i will look and see what kind of ign it has, might get lucky

Turns out this engine is hosed. Crank seals are leaking and it has only 40 pounds of compression. Don’t really have the money to throw at a toy like this. Dammit.

sorry, turns out my engine is older than yours too. one day at a time on those projects, they eventually look promising
