The 907 has always been at the top of my list of favorite Porkers.
It was just the smallest, most-efficient, and ruthlessly-fast racer of the era. Like, almost beat the GT40 at LeMans.
The longtail ones were pretty rad:
But I’ve always like the short-tailed ones more.
I dunno. I think they remind me of my bike-racing days, when I was getting into car design, and GT1 in the 90s was just the coolest thing.

I’m more of a long tail guy, myself, but I agree that the 907/908 were some of the best looking cars
Fun fact - The film “Le Mans” was shot with a 908 being used as the camera car. McQueen himself got second place at the 12 hours of sebring in the same car prior to it being converted for that role.

Yep.
906 and 908 get a lot of love, deservedly.

Magic. The 908s are very slightly cooler to me because there are just so many variants and the coupe’s rooflines are prettier, but these are a joy to see. If I recall correctly, it was a 908 that came closest to winning Le Mans in ‘69, that famous Hermann/Ickx battle, 908 v GT40 1075.
Your reference to bike racing is apt. If ever a racecar was aimed for lightness and aerodynamics at all costs as racing bicycles often are , it was these early Porsche prototypes.

Yeah, the floorboards of these cars— cheeseplates.

They were cool, but the 917 was the Conan of Porsches. It crushed its enemies, saw them driven before it, and heard the lamentation of their women.

No dis
agreement.

The 907 and 908 are probably the most elegant of the early prototypes.
Shoutout to the (confusingly) earlier 909 and 910 too. W hich, while uglier, were terrifyingly light as well. Each weighed under 1000 lbs in certain trims. Imagine having 270hp in a sub 1000 pound car, it’d be absolutely bonkers to drive.

This is going to sound a bit weird but almost all racecars look terrible to me. The only exception are the ones of this style:
I don’t care very much at all for anything with aero.
