BMW debuted the 128ti for Europe to create a sporty model that slots under their M135i but above their 120i
.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This is actually something that they should spread over to the rest of their line-up as even the just under top-of-the-line models are starting to put down some serious power and performance.
Consider the 3 series in the US:
330i- 255hp
M340i - 382hp
That’s nearly a whole Toyota Corolla’s worth of power between the two models. If BMW expanded the lineup with a 335ti with their 302hp I4 and the sport chassis upgrades from the M340i , it would hit the sweet spot for a sport sedan.

I’d buy it.

More ti models: sure
Less red lipstick on a pig: also yes.

Few buy M cars as enthusiasts, the ti idea won’t have market appeal to be worth it.

I think it's safe for BMW to drop the i now.

I can’t even find a 3080 how am I supposed to find a ti version?

That’s a very good point

It seems like a parts bin special to me. Just the right combination of pieces and some red trim to attract the guys who can’t afford the full tilt M and M sport models, I think it would sell.

Same for VWs TSI, and Kias GDI, and Honda’s Si..

I just wish BMW would bring their hatches to the US.

I can’t say I disagree but people must like red accents because it seems like everybody is putting red accents on their cars.

Yes, that and the MB A-class hatch. I would love more hatchback options here in the states

Power-wise there is a big gap but price-wise there isn’t, and the 330i c an already be had with basically all the M340i chassis goodies except maybe the rear diff? It even has a better steering rack that didn’t fit with the I-6. What they should do is just rebrand the 330i M-sport into the 330ti and give it the juicier four. And a manual option while we’re dreaming.

Internationally they still have all the diesel options. Although yes, I guess they could just drop the i and keep the d on the diesels.

Lol at thinking BMW gonna bring a nitpicky extra but not M badged middle child not-a-crossover to America in this year of our apocalypse or henceforth.
I had a 135is fwiw and I thought it was cool and subtle even though it was festooned with many ///M badges for performance.

I fully support this - especially since it keeps the M badge from being put on literally everything sporty they make.

I mean, why not? Just make the ti a pricey package and then boom, 300hp sport sedan

The diesels are all injected, so why isn’t it a 520id?

They have to understand that less is more though. But that’s the problem with the whole design of modern BMWs.
Take for example the best hot hatch of the 80s, the 205. It has red accents, but it’s not overdone.

Styling wise, the t i red accents are remini scent of Hyundai/Kia styling accents.
