Portable temporary pedestrian crossing light and button seen in Midtown. Neat little solar powered setup here. I wonder how it works.

Inside the box, there is a golem with a strong sense of civic pride and pedestrian welfare . That’s how it works.

Oh really. Couldn't have given him a slightly larger box? Hours must be quite taxing.

If they are like ours, they are radio linked.
((though these pictured are battery powered, diesel powered, solar and mains connected one are available))

Those seem like a much more temporary solution than the fancy scaffolding and solar based set up pictured. It’s a pretty large building under construction so presumably they will be there quite a while (though they are indeed new to that spot and the building has been under construction a while).
Why would you want a diesel powered one? Wouldn't that be loud?

They are longer lasting than you’d think using LEDs.
The diesel and mains powered ones are less temporary.
The diesel ones are quieter than you’d think, but still not silent by any means.
Still the preferred option for a number of clients and sites. Our cable-linked, silenced diesel powered portable lights are safe, reliable & operate at an amazingly low noise level which is ideal for use in residential and other built up areas. Complies to TR0111 spec (formerly MCE0111 spec).
So with this one, there is a unit with a diesel generator, cable linked to the individual lights. So while not radio linked, they are a further option for temporary vehicle and pedestrian traffic lighting.

They are quite small and a pigeon keeps them going for days.

I heard that they only feed on calzones.

I read this as I listen to The Dresden Files. Big fae fight going on with goblins, golems, Centaurs, etc. Gave me a smile. Thank you.

Wouldn't want to stick a baby centaur in there now

Well the job has a lot of down time so that would explain the activity on Oppo. Who knew? Who knew.

You can just shovel a few pigeons in there every now and again to keep the light operational for weeks on end!

Those diesel ones sound only semi permanent. Like they might be there long stretches at a time. RIP neighbors when a generator gets put in their front yard.
The one I saw seems to be attached to a trailer and has built in stabilizing arms. Seems like it could be deployed for events as well as long term like in this case. Seems quite flexible until you consider the tall buildings on the east and west and that the solar panels face south.

Yes, they are all semi permanent, it’s just how long in their semi-permanence they are as to which gets chosen or most likely chosen for use.
