I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazzard , and still love it to this day.

The General Lee changed a lot over the course of the show, but the early cars (The ones from the first 5 episodes specifically- the Georgia Lees) are my favorites, and I soak up any info I can on them.

That brings us to this: I’ve read they used Summit brand tires on the GA Lees, which I’d never heard of, and the previous times I googled them, found nothing.

UNTIL TONIGHT.

Here they are, in all their glory (I even busted out the DVD to compare), THE SUMMIT SUPER TRAC.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is a pointless post but for some reason I’m really proud of this.

EDIT: First off I’m glad this has received a good response. Second off, how have 2k+ people seen this?

“Somewhere between 256 and 321 “ General Lee ” cars were created and mostly destroyed during the series. Less than 20 in various states of disrepair still exist. Despite popular belief, there were no 1970 Chargers used in the series according to all the car builders.”

“A lot of cars were crashed during production. Replacing the police sedans was easy, but replacing the “General Lee” was much harder because Dodge stopped making the Charger. It got to the point where if producers saw a Charger on the street they would approach the owner and offer to buy it on the spot.”

“The “General Lee” is a 1969 Dodge Charger. 1968 Chargers were also used, but their round tail lights and front grill were replaced from those on the 1969 model on the otherwise nearly identical model years.”

“During one of the famous jump sequences, recorded before the series debuted on Friday, January 26th, 1979, the stunt crew actually set a world record. The jump’s height was 16 feet and length was 82 feet long, and it occurred on Saturday, November 11th, 1978. Stuntdriver, Craig R. Baxley is believed to be the successful driver of this historic jump.”

“ Over half of the fan mail for the show was actually addressed to the General Lee."

I remember reading an interesting article somewhere about a guy who made a ‘69 Charger lookalike based on a Ford Crown Vic chassis with a body made almost entirely out of reproduction Charger parts. The purpose was so that Dukes of Hazard fan events would have a car they could do stunts with and crash as much as they want without having to destroy real Chargers. It turned out pretty neat.

Yes! I remember seeing that build. A ‘68 Charger has been a dream car of mine ever since I was a kid, so the idea of being able to put one together for “cheap” immediately had my attention. Here’s the link.

Sometimes there’d be sloppy editing and you’d see the car get ruined.\

David Freiburger has a nice orange ‘70 Charger on “Roadkill,” but that franchise went off the rails and I don’t subscribe any more.

The gist of it is that it’s things like the way the lettering was done, the size of the borders on the flag, interior color, roll bar padding, and on the first three a pair of crossed flags beneath the rear window.

I don't mean to give a vibe like I'm trying to argue about it. I don't assume that you take it that way. But what my vibe truly is is one of disappointment. There was a time when I would have loved to go and shake one of their hands as well, especially Steve Dulcich. But just like you said, it's not the show that I fell in love with anymore and the stuff they do on road kill was just getting more and more moronic and it just turned into a let's destroy $50,000 worth of parts this weekend show and I just can't relate. Plus, I think they treat their fans like crap. there's just no fan involvement and somebody can come along and give them an entire car and they won't even introduce you to him. I just don't think they're very nice guys and I don't think the show is very nice anymore and I'm very disappointed.

Pretty sure I've already told you this, but all my people come from Somerset county. I live in California. San Francisco Bay area, no less. Hardly a swing state. But I like it here and I'm not sure I would be much interested in living in Pennsylvania or any of another list of swing states I can think of. Not dishing on PA, just saying... I can't imagine living here until I die, but then I also can't think of anywhere else I'd not be miserable living.

I didn’t get that vibe from ya at all! I still don’t quite agree, but that’s alright. I definitely think they can get a bit pointless at times, but I don’t really think they treat the fans bad. A lot of people probably just don’t want to be on camera.

I’d be curious how much age difference there is between you and me, if any. I just turned 56 this summer. For me it kind of boils down to weather it’s worth my time or not. And the roadkill franchise just kind of had decreasing return on my investment of time. For the reasons that I mentioned. And not only that, all those shows that dozens of shows on motor trend on demand just strike me as all cut from one of three or four different cookie cutters. Just all the same same. Currently, I am subscribed to PowerNation TV which is okay. There are a little more mature well, actually a lot more mature... And they do a really great job of showing exactly what parts they’re using and how much they cost... That’s another big complaint of mine about the roadkill thing is that it’s virtually impossible to learn exactly what parts they use or exactly how much stuff costs. Like, oh yeah, we’ll just put this new gearstar transmission in there... What’s that $8,000 $12,000?

Seriously though, I'm glad you're still enjoying it. I just needed to move on.

You’ve mentioned it. There’s a whole plethora of states, most of them fairly unique offering lots of living options . Hell, even within the state, there’s a ton of variability between regions.  I really liked the north-central/central part of the state better than the northeast, but it’s where my roots are and that’s important to me.  I’d probably like Alaska or Wyoming, or really anywhere in the west that’s not a coastal state, but oh well, I’m not willing to choose that over family.  I’d rather live somewhere that wasn’t a swing state, though that’s really not one of my top factors.

The coastal people are moving inland now that quarantine has shown working from home to be a workable deal. Boise, for example. *cringes* I read a year ago where communities who retired and moved inland twenty or thirty years ago are resenting the flood of people moving in, which I find ironic, as these were more conservative people in that earlier wave. It'll largely depend upon where our children and grandchildren wind up, where we retrench to. It's hard to imagine living east of the Mississippi River, but who knows?
