And it was at that moment the Tercel alarm sounded (and other unnecessary car shopping)

Suddenly, a wild Tercel appears!

Kinja'd!!!

The model in question is a 1982 Corolla Tercel 3 door hatchback in SR5 trim. Better yet, it’s a 4 speed, though the interior isn’t well represented in the ad. With just 135,000 miles on the odometer, it could provide “reliable” transportation for many more years!

one of those projects that should never break down unless you wreck it as I had no issues with it until now.

Selling my 1982 Corolla Tercel in order to find a more reliable car.

Oh. That makes so much sense.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s even still got the original owner’s manuals! I wonder if that change in the center console shown comes with the car. At $1,500 it seems like a fair deal.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Sticking with the theme of old Japanese cars with stick shifts for low low prices, this 19914 Subaru Legacy seems like an absolute steal for $1,500.

Kinja'd!!!

Not too much info in the ad but it is a reasonably well preserved AWD wagon in a rather fetching shade of baby blue. I bet you could make some good money by buying it and driving it to a more Subaru crazed part of the country.

Kinja'd!!!

But what’s this? That interior looks way better than it has any right to be. I’m quite intrigued.

https://athensga.craigslist.org/cto/d/athens-94-subaru-legacy-stick-shift/7210370224.html

Okay, which one of you is going to buy this? Because a manual first gen Rav4 AWD in this good of shape for $2,600 is a crazy good deal.

Kinja'd!!!

Sure, the paint isn’t great, but most of these didn’t last a decade before looking like that. It’s in absolutely incredible shape for the 285,000 miles it has.

Kinja'd!!!

The seller claims to have all the service and repair receipts since new and to have had a thorough mechanical and cosmetic refresh just performed.

We just had a mechanic go over it with a fine tooth comb fixing anything that needed to be replaced.

The Rav4 has been professionally cleaned and the interior is in excellent condition.

Kinja'd!!!

That interior still looks factory fresh. The cloth and carpet has held up remarkably well for the miles, most of which are claimed to be from a long highway commute.

Plus, the 5 speed AWD combo is shockingly rare. Where are you going to find another RAV4 this nice anywhere? And it’s so cheap!

Holy crap that Ter cel is fantastic!  If it had AC (ad makes it unclear if it has it and it doesn’t work, or it never had it at all...) I’d be all over it.  Glad it is far, far away from me.

Yeah “ No A/C. All components original” could mean lots of things.

And the weird alternator issue seems like it could be extremely complex or a very simple fix. Someone will be very happy with it. Good thing Zoidberg is about as far away from it as possible.

Though I really thought most people would go for the Rav4. The terrible clearcoat doesn’t bother me because they all have terrible clearcoat.

Because when a Hyundai Accent rusts too easily you really want an 80s Toyota for peace of mind hehe. How'd that whole thing go? I got recommended that video you made in YouTube but I didn't see you post it here.

Those old Corolla Tercels are neat, but they don’t hold up very well when you slide them sideways into one of their GMC Sierra contemporaries.

I wish I still had the GMC logo from the grille - it ended up in the back seat of the Toyota, and was the only interesting souvenir I had from the accident ( the skull fracture & scars from removal of broken glass don’t count ).

$1500 is a pretty good price. They’re getting hard to find these days, and the mileage isn’t that high for an 80's toyota. Mine had about 200,000 when the clutch and 1st gear both went out.

Well, the rust is fixed for now, but the body place said don’t be surprised if it’s back in a year...it all stems from that minor accident I had back in 2015 apparently :(

BUT, for now I’m keeping her! Yes, I should post that video here...I hadn’t as it’s not really that interesting, but I imagine some people might be entertained by it! New unexpected video going up tomorrow morning, which I will link here...maybe I’ll link both! :)

Wow, you must have gotten real lucky there even with the skull fracture. That sounds horrific but considering the vehicles involved it could have been worse. Perhaps that's a memory not worth revisiting in automotive form.

Yeah you'd be hard pressed to find such a straight body for sale. It's a little rough on the exterior but then again it's also an 80s Toyota so the condition is quite impressive. Their paint didn't ever like to stick around when the sun comes out.

Ooh, unexpected video! I hope unexpected means the Fiat 126P getting unloaded from a container but it will probably be more like “here’s a sunrise over the lake as viewed from my Hyundai “ or something. Just joshing ya. I thought the video was interesting enough to post here.

Long live Humdrum! So glad I don’t have to deal with that sort of structurally compromising rust down here. Though the water management from sun baked rubber can sometimes be an issue for older cars.

Here's a random pic from yesterday for your time. I had a socially distanced watch party because I didn't win the ticket lottery but it was a great game.

Sadly no 126ps for awhile until I get my own place with a garage to store it...don’t want to get it now and keep it out in the weather under a tarp as that wouldn’t be best for it!

Yeah, the rust is a be-itch. Most of mine, everybody tells me, on that stupid quarter panel is because of the accident way back in 2015...if that had never happened, it’d still be as solid as the untouched left-rear quarter...

Cool pic, love the night lighting! What was in the truck?

Let’s just say my video involves taking advantage of terrain, lol...

Humdrum off-roading?!?! Or drifting?!?!

Shame about that accident. I’m sure you’ve been kicking yourself ever since but it was the repair shops fault that it turned into such a big problem.

I’m just thinking about how quickly my inner fenders would rust with the plastic wheel liner missing on one side. Or how many frames my dad’s Tundra would have gone through to still function at this point if we lived in a state that went heavy on the road salt. Yeah I’ll stick with Georgia for now.

Thank you. Truck was empty since the game had just finished and it belonged to the other team for gear hauling. Semis are always completely failing at backing up to that spot so it’s a good thing that curb is granite and not concrete. It’s rather amusing to see the the hapless drivers trying to negotiate such a tight spot as that’s the only loading zone and the road dead ends. Every once in a while you'll notice a lamp post that used to be there isn't anymore.

I test drove an ‘82 SR5, white with black decals, like 10 years ago. The seller was very nervous and tried to shorten the test drive, but I pushed as I always do . It overheated after 15 minutes. I was so fucking mad. Drove 2 hours t o look at something the guy knew would explode on the drive back home. Cute car and enjoyable to drive — briefly.

I remember not test driving a 2WD Jeep Cherokee because it immediately overheated. It is a pretty frustrating feeling but that particular vehicle had a whole lot of other unrevealed problems too. And it was a lifted 2WD. Ew.

The Rav4 is mighty tempting, and would make a fantastic offroad beater car. No trail would be too scary, and every scratch would add to the car’s aesthetic . Though you caught it just in time, the ad was removed by the author. Bummer.

That Legacy is neat too, and for even cheaper than the Rav4 there has to be some catch. Granted, it’s an old Subaru wagon, those things can last a while (as can any car) with the right love and care.

I’ve always had a thing for the Subaru Legacy Outback (best of both worlds) with it’s plastic trim and low stance. It’s certainly a car I wouldn’t mind owning, as is the legacy pictured above.

Oh to have a vast amount of money to unnecessarily spend on cheap cars...

I am not at all surprised that the Rav4 already sold. Though I think it is far too nice to take off road really. Some light dirt roads might be fun though.

I bet you could make a pretty penny buying that Legacy and driving it up north. Provided it doesn't have substantial rust that is.

I bet some people do that, take a car from the south, bring it up north, and slap an extra grand on the price tag because there’ s no rust. Sounds like a scam straight out of Ed Edd n’ Eddy (finally got around to watching Big Picture Show, fun little slapstick film that pulls on some heart strings).

Not really a scam, just leveraging the advantages of such a car. There are people who do just that for a living, buying cars down here, trailering them up north, and selling them for a profit.
