He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

For the life of me, I can’t imagine why John Denver wanted to change his name.

Yeah, if I read the caption correctly that’s his dad on the left.... who bore little resemblance to his son...

“long deployments, gee, the mailman really was a talented musician...” “Oh.”

Maybe a name change was the right move.  Ironic the son died in a plane crash.

Allow six to eight weeks for delivery. The Hustler was probably retired by the time you got your model.

Because “Mr. Sunshine on my goddamn shoulders, John Deutschendorf” just doesn’t have that ring to it.

Pretty fair though. The B-58 was expensive to produce, expensive to maintain, accident-prone and was of limited use even before SAMs forced them into low-level flight, where their speed was neutralized and their short legs were made even more apparent. Little wonder that McNamara shit-canned the program barely  five years after they were accepted. They did prove to be pretty good at providing a pool of potential Sled Drivers though, so there’s that.

D idn’t those things have a range of like 27 feet at full throttle?  Super cool but n o room for fuel...

2,000 miles, not terrible. That huge thing under the centerline is a combination fuel/bomb pod. Still, the B-52 has a combat radius of nearly 4,500 miles. Speed is the selling point here.
