$6900 seems fair. Great color too!

I still think Ebay is worse... at least you can’t do “Buy It Now” over Craigslist after a couple of excess beers

I’ve had exactly one sip of beer in my life, so that failure mode hadn’t occurred to me...

I had a red ‘79 they sound surprisingly great and are a hoot. They require some work to prevent overheating and the way the Stromberg carb is directly above the exhaust header, it’s prone to boiling the fuel in the bowl causing it to start to evaporate and leading to fuel lock. Usually after driving long/hard and then sitting at a stoplight or parking it and running in to a store quickly. Can cause it to be difficult to start and keep running at low speeds. BUT it’s fairly easy to keep it from happening by fashioning your own heat shields or switching to a side draft carb, or maybe the stock is side and you need down draft, I can’t remember. Either way 70mph on the highway is a once a month at most experience, 30mph feels so fast in this car sitting so low that 70mph feels like you’re E vil Knievel taking you’re life in you’re own hands!

I say Do it but get very familiar with tuning that carb. It’s a frequent occurrence if you stick with the stock one as it takes a slight tuning every time the weather changes it seems.

Regrettably that’s too much for a toy for me, but someone is going to be very happy.

Yeah I bought mine for $3,100 and sold it for $4,700 a couple years ago so this one better be in great shape or values are going up!

me:  “Damn.  Never Again!”

Values seem stronger lately... I’ve been casually looking for a Stag. In LA several nice ones came and went under $6000 over the previous couple of years . I haven’t seen a good one list for less than $10K this year.

I met this seller a while ago. Drove by his house and saw him working on it. Super solid cat.

IMO it’s a bit high for what it is. I think 5k with all the parts is a good price. I want to say he told me he has cams, header, an exhaust system, and a few suspension odds and ends. Maybe a Weber single  downdraft setup. It would be a competent toy/autocrosser/fair weather daily.

That’d be top shelf oppo right there.

On a side note, Englewood is less than a hour from home.  I wonder if I could fit my backside into a spitfire..

I’ve actually never touched the carbs on this 76. Just check the dampers and add ATF almost every time I take it out for some reason. And yes it can be reluctant to restart after running into the store on a hot day.

But otherwise very fun and exactly as described.  Really shockingly reliable.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the TR6 uses dual strombergs that are much improved over the spitfire’s 4 cyl. For some reason I remember some suggesting if you can find a TR6 carb setup it would all but eliminate the issue. Also location might be a factor too, I had it in both Fort Worth and South Texas summers. The DFW winters really woke the engine up!

Beautiful Green BTW

Thanks. It definitely has the fuel starvation exactly as you describe; you just have to crank it longer and it runs rough at first until it clears. About a year ago I adjusted the valves for the first time in who knows how long. That totally cured some slight low RPM bogging it had for a long time. It really runs beautifully and dat inline 6 music

Oh i totally forgot, I burned up an OEM   centrifugal  style starter because of that issue! Good excuse to replace it with the reduction gear starter that could crank for much longer which curbed some of the Fear I would get stranded at a stop light.

Do it! The guy was only selling because he got a tri five. Last I saw it sat in his driveway under a cover. That was about August.
