I’ve been pretty bummed since my car’s
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
the other day, so I decided to pass the time Thursday night by trying to take my mind off things by doing up another ‘Night Cruise’ series design.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
This time I went a little outside my usual zone of quirky/small Euro and Japanese stuff and went with everyone’s favorite off-roader brand that is saving Chrysler....i.e. Jeep.
This design was based on an ‘82 CJ7:
I like vehicles with a historical connection as well, and, as the CJ was the last model Jeep sold that was still based, in part, on the original
Willys from 1945, I thought it was worthy to be my first American design. :]

I knew you loved me.

I will point out, however, that your description of the CJ-7 as the last MB -based Jeep is questionable due to the existence of the Scrambler. The CJ-8 seems like it would hold that honor.

This one is very good. I like the idea behind these and your execution just keeps getting better. It would make a great mug.

Th
at is true, and I did see that...I guess I sortof looked at it as in the CJ-7 was the last MB-based Jeep because it’s a ‘Jeep’ Jeep...yes the Scrambler came later, but it’s a ‘truck’ Jeep if that makes sense...?

Haha, when I was trying to think of one to do, I thought to myself “A Jeep might actually look cool in that style” so I decided to try it :)
The hardest part was shading the lower undercarriage area so it was dark like the gradient style I use, but still visible to tell it’s body on frame...

Thanks, it turned out pretty well I think! I forget what all RedBubble has for options, but I know mugs are a thing they sell, so you could actually get it on a mug if you wanted to! They have water bottles and thermoses too...lots of clothes, coasters, wall hangings, blankets....clocks....a neat array of items you can sell with your art on it :)

The t-shirts seem to have a black box around the design. Is that something that wouldn’t show up on the shirt or can the shirts be darker to match?

Clocks? That could be cool but also what would I do with a clock? *looks around at dorm room* yeah there’s not much I could do with one right now.
How’s the car hunt going? Are you seriously considering replacing Humdrum before winter really gets in gear or are you going to wait a bit longer? I still think that Micra looks mighty fine.

There is a black box in the design because if I made the background ‘transparent’ the design wouldn’t look right when people ordered light colored shirts with the ‘bright’ lights on the vehicles and the ‘night-time’ darkening gradient top to bottom
...so I put the black box to maintain the ‘night’ theme regardless of what color shirt it was, if that makes sense...
Example of what I mean...imagine this white background was a white shirt and I didn’t have the black ‘box’ on the design (using my FIAT design as an example as I don’t have the Jeep one on this computer yet):
...or if it was a, say, red-colored shirt with no black box background:
I imagine you would see the box that is currently in the design on lighter gray dark shirts, but if the shirt fabric was dark enough or close enough to black, you wouldn’t really notice it too much?
Hopefully you get what I mean...hard to put into words! Long story short, not having the black box would sortof ‘ruin’ the design on lighter or colored shirts, if that makes sense...

I understand the motivation, but there aren’t any color choices for your shirts, so the only choice is a slightly mismatched dark shirt/dark box.
If only dark shirts are available anyway, I’d rather buy one that didn’t have the box.

Hmmm...let me look into that, I was under the impression you could choose colors when you went to purchase one (I’ve never looked into purchasing any). I do have the ‘background’ color for most shirts and items set to black on the management page, maybe that means only that shirt color is available?
I’ll check how it works and report back! If you’re right and it’s ONLY set to that color, I can just swap in a version with no black box. :)
EDIT - Yeah, there are other colors, as I thought - bottom-right of the main picture for a design on a shirt:
Sadly it doesn’t seem like I can limit a design to only certain colors (like just black), so I’m kindof stuck keeping the black box, otherwise it won’t look right on all the colors people could choose from
:(

No worries! :)
Guess I’m sortof stuck doing the black background box thing :(
