Well each pair of euro characters is one in Japanese, be it hiragana or katakana (kanji is only one character). My wife says there is no emphasis on the last character ru. It was probably just for the commercial speak. She said if anything a native speaker says the SU a bit stronger at the start, but it isn’t any rule.

That’s been my experience with Japanese... I pronounce it one way, but turns out I’m fancying it up and it’s really just the first syll able that gets emphasis. My cousin and her husband both studied Japanese and lived abroad for awhile, so they are my go-to when I have questions about how to speak Japanese.

These commercials are amazing. Best tagline ever for a campaign, just “The little Subaru: WOW!” We need more advertising like that these days.
“WATCH OUT! It’s the Ford Mustang Mach-E!”
“The Chevy Camaro: LOOK!”
“The zippy, zappy new Tesla crossover: Y tho?!”
“The economical Elio: NO WAY!”
“The VTEC-equipped Honda Civic: YO!”
“The BMW M4: *snorts loudly*”

Not necessarily, Malcolm Bricklin might have been pronouncing it wrong, too.

They might have done better keeping the wow line but going without the cheap and ugly line. Paying for broadcasts to provide n egative branding on your own product is rarely a good idea.
