Right in the middle of a quote block. Nice.

It’s one line to add to the code of Oppositelockator to remove this thing, but if i want to re-merge the blockquotes it will be more slightly complex but should be doable quite easily .
But the question is : is it only splitting blockquotes or it could be splitting other kind of contents?

It looks like it is just appearing at an arbitrary point in the page. Here, it broke up a bullet list.

Dealing with the newsletter bot is like dealing with Lucy Liu-bot

Gee, it’d be a shame if Kinja or G/O Media missed out on their own newletters. Maybe we should sign them up just in case they forgot to subscribe .

Currently l
ooks like it’s put just before the last line of content
text, whatever that text is.

You think they could at least turn it off for sites that don’t actually have a newsletter.
![]() 10/01/2020 at 13:41 |

And keep it off after a user signs up for it (to a spam account). Barn Finds is broken like this too.

I added a fix for this in Oppositelockator 1.2 , at the moment it’s merging content before a nd after the newsletter excluding
that didn’t need it.
I only found and tested on pages splitting
so it might break things in other cases ; if you stumble upon something broken , tell me about it.

Is it possible to find the emails of G/O Media investors?
Asking for a friend.

Has anyone subscribed it? I kinda want to see what gets through.

Honestly, if it gets rid of the stupid “subscribe to our newsletter” pop-ups that never, ever go away across the network, I’m for it.
Now to make
the OppositeLock Newsletter everything it can be, which is to say,
photos of David Hasselhoff with puppies.

I’d sign up if it would make that thing go away.

Thanks for your work on this. I need to get it running.

I have not. If it made this bot go away, I would, but then have my email filter it straight to the trash.

I just did on my throwaway email. Will report back.

Oppositelockator should remove both but at the moment it’s only “active” on the blogs (*.kinja.com) a nd Jalopnik, not on sites using other domains but they can be added if needed.

Ooh, I need to get around to installing it, then. That pop-up is the bane of my reading existence.

You thought they couldn’t make it worse than a popup...
Inserting that
into
content is a new low.

I have learned this year that no matter how low anything goes, it is possible to keep digging.
