The first 08 is the best buy for most people, but that Loyale is very hipster right now (or if you just want a car you can keep on the road yourself). I’m not a hipster but I still want.

turbo Subies offer a heck of bunch of fun for buck.... that XS Forester looks like a pretty good deal too...

Nice upholstery color in that 08 at top, Loyale is the classic of the bunch and probable NP.

I like the white and sliver too. Outback XTs are probay the cheapest way to get a turbo subi too

Do All foresters still have the plastics over the carpets?
I didn’t know it was a forester thing. I bought a 2017 forester last April and yes it still had, now has the plastics over the carpet.

I had an 02 Impreza with an automatic transmission...

Ditch the hubcaps and source a spare tire, and that Loyale would be perfect.
It’s amusing to see the lineup spread from 1992:
I wouldn’t mind the ‘99 Forester or the ‘02 Impreza OBS, either.

That first one’s an 05 not an 08

It’s a nice color, but a pain to keep clean

Probably needs a bi-monthly cleaning from jeans dye alone, and don’t have kids or pets. As a single, I could do it. I dealt with this once:

Even the rusty ones? They all have rust around the rear quarters near me
![]() 01/18/2020 at 01:05 |

Really? I know rear quarter rust was a rampant issue on the previous generation, but I haven't seen many cases of it on the 05-09 model. And I live squarely in the rust belt

I would probably rock that Loyale.
Paint it yellow, and call it a Loyale with Cheese.

How would you know it's a pain to keep clean?
![]() 01/18/2020 at 07:28 |

Loyale wins because spare tire on top of the engine is most efficient.

That’s the year range of Subarus I can afford, around 05-12. You can’t see from the outside but once you have your head up close you can see it starting. They’ve all been 115k+ miles (not km), but still not confidence inspiring

I’ve got a 2008 with 213k and the only areas with rust have been bolts and a few heat shields

but do you live in the rust belt though?

Massachusetts. Driving on roads white with salt this very moment

Hopefully not literally at this moment, testing and driving is hella dumb/antisocial. Have you been doing anything to mitigate salt or any reason you can think of why yours is rust free ( I think we have similar rust belt ideas of rust free)?
From the handful I’ve looked at yours seems to be the exception, but maybe I’m just drawn to shitcars

I was parked on the side of the road when I wrote that, so no, not texting and driving.
I run her through the car wash most days that the temperature climbs above freezing, but that’s about it. I bought it five years ago with 134k already on the clock at that point, no idea what the regimen of the original owner was. And when I say rust free I mean there is no body rust whatsoever on the rear quarters, or anywhere else on the car for that matter.
The 2000-2004 Outback was notorious for quarter panel rust. I had an 01 and sure enough it had it on both quarters. The generation after that is known for being drastically better in that regard.
