Trying to figure out the tactical use for these, but am amused they made the crews sit in them on the back of a truck for the parade.

Quiet reconnaissance, but they fly low and slow (but are small) so I’d be worried about small arms fire bringing them down. Gyrocopters/Autogyros have very short takeoff and landing and are much simpler, safer, and cheaper than helicopters.

Burns was right, their will be Autogyro s flying to Siam.

Quiet is relative; I assume these are powered by 2 strokes.

Recon? Special forces insertion? SAR? Overwhelming Taiwanese air defenses with shitty targets that aren’t really worth shooting down?

man... I would not want to pull that duty - even if there is no conflict I’ll bet they have a ton of just training injuries/deaths...

Au contraire. I’m picturing a counter-autogyro force to match this capability.

There is zero protection. You could probably bring one of those things down with a 12 gauge.

At about 1000' you they’re really hard to hear (about all the closer you get to them when they’re flying). There’s a small hobby airport near one of the race tracks I run at and there are a couple gyrocopters and ultralights that routinely fly around. If you don’t see them, you don’t know they’re there. Driving on the highway right beside/under them you don’t hear them at all.
Also, they can hover in relatively low speed winds (30-40mph). They’d be great for patrolling remote areas, you could land and take off anywhere with an opening a couple hundred feet long and 50' wide.

These are good for recon if you don’t have the capabilities to launch and control small drones. The down side is that they are target practice for anyone that sees them. They are light, have limited armor and expose the crew. It would not be hard for a SAW or similar small automatic crew weapon to take one down. We don’t use them because we have a plethora of small drones to use instead.
