Carbon fiber Merkur XR4Ti for sale in Kentucky somewhere. Throw a voodoo under the hood and it would be a fun canyon carver.

Is it a Merku r or a Sierra ? It has Ford badging and it doesn’t have the split rear side window like an XR4Ti.
Either way it looks like a DIY version of the Merkurs that used to run in Trans Am.

Want it as is.
Too cool.

I agree - it looks more Sierra, but the add lists it as a Merkur. I figure they either imported the parts, or just took some liberties and associated shortcuts.
DIY? Possibly, but in carbon fiber?

I would assume that it started life as a Merkur. The Cosworth nose and large rear window are reasonably common modifications on Merkurs (the nose far more than the Window though I have personally seen a handful with the window modified) .

Personally I would stick with the 2.3. They are good engines, if heavy for a 4 cylinder.
I’m also totally biased because my dad owned 2 Merkurs.

If you want to keep with the Sierra XR4i theme, I’d stick with a V6. The TT out of a Ford GT would do nicely, I think.
Or you could go with the standard choice and:

According to the poll, 8/10 would daily.

I don’t recognize the series but it sure looks like a full on pro car to me. The kind of car that cleaned up costs more than 100k and probably cost more originally.
It seems like to many difficult to fabricate details to be a home made kit. I suspect the only Merkur parts on it are the headlight, roof and rear deck assembly. It’s a tube frame with a race body I wonder what it was built for..If somebody buys it for $12k, they stole it......

This badly needs the new EcoBoost High Performance engine... the RS-spec engine for longitudinal fitment that they just put in the Mustang for 2020.

Somewhere out there there's a build thread for that car. I recognize it from like a decade or more ago when I was looking for a cool first car and first learned about Merkurs.

Answer from another forum
“
That car was built by Gene Young. I saw it when I bought his Lotus 7. He was just starting on the carbon body back then. His pal, Paul Bird, was building a similar SN95 Mustang for AIX.”
“
Here’s the XR4ti back when I saw it.”
