I p icked up one of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and finally got around to testing it out. The first two clips in this video were taken after I bought an extension cable so I can run my external microphone out to the trunk lid and pick up good audio. The last two clips are from before I got the extension cable, and thus making do with the onboard microphone.

Looks like it makes for more than a decent traffic cam.
BTW, your Miata sounds awesome! What are you running?

Thanks! The exhaust is all OE with the exception of a Mazdaspeed Miata muffler. https://oppositelock.kinja.com/nb-miata-pro-tip-1836585609

Welp, guess I better go find one!
I did pick up some wheels for my Shinsen Miata. I’ll have to write a post about it!

What’d you use for an external mic?

Super cheap Sony ECMCS3 , mounted in a strategic position on the rear of the car, out of the airflow to avoid wind noise .

Gotcha. My exhaust exits the side, so wind might be an issue there. Did you use the GoPro adapter to hook it up? Or other means?

Yeah, my GoPro requires the use of their stupidly expensive adapter . If your camera has a 3.5mm mic input, just plug it straight in.
If your side-exit exhaust is near the rear, a rear-mounted mic might still work well, especially if your exhaust is loud. Mine is relatively quiet, even with the Mazdaspeed muffler.

Yup. Just picked up the HERO7 Black. I was hoping for a cheaper alternative to the adapter on amazon or something. But no dice.
I’ve practically straight piped the van minus a cherry bomb glass pack. So it’s loud. Dumps out right before the left rear tire. I might have some luck tucking it up in the tunnel, but I’ll have to work different spots and see.

Yeah, I think mounting the mic on the rear will pick up your exhaust just fine. For avoiding wind noise, I’d recommend clipping the mic to the inside of a lip area, like so .

Neat, there’s plenty of space in the rear of the van
