This particular model is insanely quiet, much more so than any other washer or dryer I’ve ever used. Vibration is basically nonexistent too. The 14 minute quick wash setting has been super handy when I’ve needed my one good shirt freshened up halfway through a night out lol.
As for a full wash/dry cycle that’s equivalent to what I’m used to back home with conventional machines.... Yeah. It definitely takes longer. I think something like 4 hours, although you can play around with the settings a bit to shorten or lengthen that time.
5kg capacity is more than my fun-size apartment washer can handle, and this all-in-one unit is dimensionally smaller than said washer too. I’m going to think about picking up something similar, as a quieter machine that takes the place of two bigger appliances would really be handy. I need more shelving! I’m guessing it would be much more expensive in America, but in Thailand the price is only $750.
I’ve heard that these offer poor drying performance in but so far I’ve been impressed. Any Oppos have a 2-in-1 machine?

We just installed a bunch in an apartment building we are building. I heard from the appliance distributor that they are generally regarded as pretty crappy compared to dedicated units. These are expensive Bosch units we installed so maybe some other brands are different/better.

That’s what I’ve always heard too. I wish it was easier to find modern appliances that were built to last, and didn’t come equipped with a million unnecessary features. This thing has NFC and Wi-Fi for crying out loud....
My old avacado green 70's washing machine might have been loud, big and ugly, but that thing kept on chugging for almost 50 years, and it worked great. Hell, it didn't even die, I just wanted something that would fit better

Yeah, it’s kind of ridiculous. My parents just got a new washer/dryer and they both have all that stuff. I asked my mom about it and she was just as confused as me. She said the higher spec models all have those features now.

Yeah, my house came with a dryer from the 80's and based on everyone’s frequent complaints about new appliances, I’m going to keep running this one.

When I rented a vacation apartment in Prague a couple years ago, it had something like this. If I remember right, it did’t get things 100% dry, but apparently that’s how they like it, let it air out and do a final dry manually.

Dryers are such a simple beast, and if it’s working, no need to swap it out. We’ve never bought a washer dryer set, always one or the other. If the washer is high speed enough. The dryer isn’t all that necessary anyway. But you may want to open the lid and vacuum out the lint inside ;).

Those would be perfect for my kids nightly laundry load. Just load it up and forget about it. As it is now, I need to throw the clothes in the dryer before I head up to bed. This would save the hassle of waiting on the wash cycle. Very cool.

My shitty OG dishwasher (1991) is a BEAST. I will cry the day that craps out.

Yeah, I clean the lint trap after every drying cycle and I try to do a more thorough cleaning once in a while. And that’s definitely where some newer dryers I’ve used are better, they are better at trapping lint.
As for not needing a dryer, I hear you, most of my clothes I don’t dry for fear of them shrinking, if something fits me just right, I know my dryer will make it so that it does not. They are nice for towels, sheets, socks, underwear, etc.

They just put so much stuff on it now that there is more to go wrong. I recently had to replace a control board on my dryer and then fuse shortly thereafter. My mom’s old dryer growing up was a heating element with a timer. It breaks, you get a new heating element. The drum motor dies after 30 years, you get a new dryer. Nowadays, life expectancy is half that.
The only problem I see with the all in ones is that you can’t do another load while drying, and it’s nice to split up loads by hot or cold and run them in parallel. That’s why for my apartments I liked the stacked units.

Ditto, I don’t dry much anymore either. I remember opening the top on our old dryer at the old house and it was amazing how much lint had gotten out of the drum. But that dryer was over 20 years old too and still going.

In my experience with both laundry and dishwashing machines, the less you pay the better they work and the longer they last.

Huh. That is a profound observation and I think I agree 100%

As someone who has had a dryer catch fire... Good on you for cleaning it out daily. That was a scary situation...

I think a stove/oven is the one major appliance where I like having some fancy tech thrown in. I've been cooking on a flat top induction stove lately and while I miss the gas/cast iron combo... I really appreciate how quick, easy, and low-maintenance the induction/non-stick cookware is.

They even have a cycle designed for that, that goes a bit longer but keeps the noise down even more

Ha. I remember that. In the back of my head I was thinking about washer enthusiasm as I posted this.

As someone that works in retail in appliances, I can 100% confirm that this as false overall Way more people try to contact us with warranty issues on the bargain appliance models.
It’s usually more model specific than cheap vs. expensive, but overall a high dollar appliance will last longer. That’s partly because they’re better taken care of in general , but how they’re made and the quality of parts goes a long way into the longevity of the appliances.

Funny, after all these years with a ceramic cooktop, I’m longing for a gas range. It’s so hard to regulate the heat on my burners, and I easily burn stuff if I’m not really careful. I do love the non-stick cookware though, and the easy clean up top.

My parents still have the original washer/dryer in their 1981 townhouse. Both work fine! I occasionally use them when I’m house-sitting.
