I’m not a happy camper about this news. The world needs more roadsters, not fewer.

Well, it was an obvious flop. If they were making money on at least something else, maybe they could justify it, but you can have literally your entire model range be loss leaders.

I test drove one and quite liked it - same problem as the Miata for me though, I just don’t fit.  It was a little better, and I think better looking but when the top frame of the windshield is eye level it’s not fun.

Fiat as a whole is......not healthy. So the 124 spider isn’t making things better. Especially when you consider “sister” companies like Maserati and Alfa Romeo are shitting the bed alongside you. Fiat has what? The 500 line ? And the 124? So they’re basically a non-established Mini brand alongsid e a rebadged Miata which, I might add, all the miata fans said they would buy over the 124.

So......Yeah. No shit. This isn’t a surprise and is a warning sign for what happens to half-hearted attempts to pursue fickle enthusiasts in a dwindling market segment. Hate to say it, but it makes less and less sense to pursue “enthusiasts” who will reject your project for arbitrary reasons while “average consumers will barely notice it at all.

My local Fiat dealer still has 2018 models on the lot...Which means they are from 2017 in terms of calendar months. They have them listed at 19 grand brand new. I assume they will sell for far less.

Fiat doesn’t even build the current 124 Spider, Mazda does.

Maybe they can team up with BMW to make the Z4 a Fiat? Oh wait, that’s ta ken. Is the Me rcedes SL  available?

I’d argue that it’s more attractive than the contemporary MX-5 from some directions and it supposedly has a better suspension setup. The big problem is that it has a shitty Fiat powertrain and a badge that makes it depreciate like all the other garbage that comes from FCA.

I have a video of a brand new one with paper plates and a bad tail light... It might be assembled by Mazda, but the components that Fiat supplies for them are all garbage.

It will be a great cheap track car in the future when we can buy them with bad engines for $1500 and swap in a decent drivetrain from a wrecked MX-5.

The Abarths might move if they weren’t demanding $35k+ for them, but it’s the same problem otherwise.

Yeah, FIAT’s in real trouble, that’s why they’re making things things like Jeep pickups. Who the fuck’s gonna buy those ?

19K, comes with a 4yr warranty, seems like a serious  bargain vs. a lot of crap compacts.  Even though it’s a Fiat.   If you think of it as a four-year lease with a $0 buyout the math makes good sense.
