My name is Darryl, I’m fat and I went to college in the 90s. Yes, everybody called me “Heavy D”. I didn’t appreciate it at first but came to accept it. Some of my college buddies still sometimes call me that and I’m not sure they even remember the real Heavy D.

Absolutely. I mean most fat people don’t really love being called fat but this wasn’t done with any antipathy. Like most nicknames that stick it was just a little ball-breaking between friends.
