I haven’t posted much about the Volvo lately, so here’s a picture of the floor with most of the rust cut out.
Those supports are gonna be a pain to reinforce, but at least we're about ready to start adding stuff rather than just taking it away.

Are you making a new panel from sheet steel or just cutting what you need out of a stamped reproduction?

We're using an old stop sign I got at a garage sale for $5. The plan is to just use self-tapping screws for now and then eventually have real floor pans put in and welded professionally.

You and I have a different definition of “most. " I'd say you have a lot more rust removal to go. Nothing I can see in that pic looks like good metal.

If you're not going to fix it right, a sign is a fine idea.

It’s not bubbly or crumbly a nywhere (aside from the supports), so we're just going to treat the rest. Rust isn't a problem around here, so it shouldn't get any worse.

It never stops getting worse.

You might consider where you can bolt in some angle iron(say around the perimeter of the area) to reinforce that area before adding the sign material. If you’re not or going to weld in new panels and supports right now, this would be a way to get some structure in the area.

+1. Be careful as the the car is unibody construction. People working on cars with true frame rails can probably get away with a bit more as things like rusty rockers are more a body issue than a frame issue.

Is that a PV?
I have an Amazon with a similarly excellent terrible floor that’s getting welded on by a friend (who is actually a professional thankfully).

It's a 144, so not *quite* that cool. It's in excellent condition aside from the left-side floor pans. My guess is it spent a few years sitting on an incline, collecting water on just the one side. It's a shame they didn't park it the other direction, because then I'd be able to drive it already.

Oh dang! Well it could just be that they didn’t truly solve the rust issues with the 144's too, since yours started production when the Amazon was still being made. They’re renowned for bad rust in that spot just from average use...
