Dodge Daytona, 1992-1993 given the fixed headlights, 2.5l given the lack of body cladding.
Perfect candidate for a RWD conversion.

Fuck that, V8 RWD convert it.

It was a 2 door 944-butt looking thing with an Eagle front end

Very rare, very shitty.

LS swap? :P

Rear drive would fix the “change gears and lanes at the same time ” feature the more powerful ones came with.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:48 |

Mopar actually made a kit to convert them.
Dodge small blocks are a direct drop with the kit.

Rare, yes. Shitty, depends on who owned it.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:49 |

Never had that issue.
Rear drive makes it: drop gear, change lanes sideways.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:52 |

the suspension in the one I drove liked to change lanes under boosty/shifty conditions. It wasn’t a nice example of one though.

I drove one in pretty good condition that was only a few years old. It was 1/2 the car as my 20 year old Datsun z car was. And my car was a POS. The car had no power unless in boost, the shifter was “maybe” the seats were flat and flacid. And it was FWD, why????
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:59 |

And drop a Lamborghini V8 in it to make it a decepzione
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:59 |

Or an entry level rally car if you dropped in an early neon R/t drivetrain.

Somehow I knew you would know that :)

I was working a line to buy one of the RWD conversion kits back when I had my old Acclaim as it was a bolt in for that car as well.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 17:20 |

Just add the turbo head to the original engine, make more power/torque than the early RT drivetrain without the hassle of a swap.
Or swap in the V6 5-speed as it’s a direct bolt in.

I mean what turbo car does have power out of boost?
Honestly it sounds like you drove a beat to hell one. The seats are usually decently supportive while still being comfortable. The shifters are generally quite tight with good feeling unless of course the bushings are shot.
I can’t argue with you on the FWD issue, Dodge couldn’t either as they produced a Mopar kit to RWD convert them.

Can’t really judge a car based on driving a “bad” one.

The non turbo dodge shadow we had for our honey moon in Hawaii was pretty great tho.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 17:28 |

Eeeeeehhhhh.....I'd question the health of that engine if it's that old. You'd probably want to rebuild the motor anyways if you added a turbo.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 17:30 |

Well, it’s certainly sounds unique whatever the hell it is.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 17:43 |

They’re pretty much the same car. The Shadow was actually the “lower” model of the lineup. Was the Daytona you drove possibly one of the “base” models that also happened to have the turbo motor?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 17:43 |
|
If it’s still running at this point, it’s fine. You’ll have to swap heads anyway, so the HG (weak point) will get replaced.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 17:51 |

The Shadow was cool because it was an Island car and had zero pretensions of being a performance car but actually worked out great since we never exceeded 45 mph.

Looks like a 1st gen, post-facelift DSM Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser/Mitsu Eclipse to me

Note the Daytona was K-car based. The Laser was a DSM product.
Based on the hood bulge, I’d say it’s a DSM product

91-92 Chrysler/ dodge Daytona. K platform fastback, 2.2 turbo 4 in top trim, I think. Smaller brother to the Le Baron.

Ha! You beat me. I posted before I read. One of the many 'mistakes' of the past. Lol

my opinion of them is tainted by how awesome I thought they were when I was ten. Especially the pop up headlight ones.

Aw, c’mon guys, quit hating on the Dodge. The IROC turbo was pretty badass.
