Got the Monster back! For those that didn’t know, it was at the dealer for it’s 18k desmo service and excessive oil consumption. They fitted it with new pistons and cylinders and whatever other little bits go along with those. It’s been there since the beginning of June, or end of May, I can’t even remember now. Feels like forever ago. The reason it took so long was because the cylinders kept getting damaged during shipping.

I’m not going to lie, it felt real weird to jump back on this thing after riding the Africa Twin so much lately. And I had forgotten how much I love this bike. I've only got about 50 miles on since the rebuild, and have to break it in again. But got damn this thing is good!

For an Italian motorcycle I think this is quite a lot of miles, most of these probably only collect 1,000 or less miles per year.

Yeah if I remember right they hadn’t seen any up that high. Weren’t sure what to quote for service on it because they hadn’t done any (or maybe just 1?) 18k’s yet, even though this iteration has been out since 2014MY.

While I agree in theory, for me the service cost/intervals are more than I can afford...which is why I only theorize about buying...most anything.

Good god, can’t believe it took so long! Assume since you are talking about break in you don’t subscribe to the “let it warm up and then do a couple WOT pulls” school of thought  then?

My school of thought is break it in like you’re going to ride it normally. I mostly mean that I’ll change the oil again in 600 miles.

It was 4 cylinders that came in damaged. Apparently whoever was packaging was letting the wrist pins just float around inside the same box as the cylinders.
