Looked nice though. Like an Infiniti Q- something or other. Which... Might be what it is?

Of all the automotive places I’ve checked out, Nissan in Ginza has been the least interesting. The above skyline, an R35 Nismo, and some lame cookie-cutter concept cars. I was hoping to at least see the IDX or the GTR concept from a few years back.

Had some kind of banana alcohol at some hole-in-the-wall place I followed a group of businessman to and it's now my favorite alcohol of all time.

?

The rear lights are reminiscent of the 1980s Skyline R30 RS.

One could argue that it has merely come full circle since it started out as a mid/large  family sedan ala Camry but became something 'more'.

I can’t sleep at night after seeing the R34 saloon picture. Terrifying.

But that’s the thing. Some know the Skyline only as the computer game coupe car.

But it comes in many bodystyles.

I was always under the impression it was a family car that you could always at least keep up with Bunta in.

The 4 door was in Gran Turismo II(lol)  b ut I think that it’s proportions are weird since the first time I saw one in person.

The Stagea with R34 front....that’s lovely!

That’s the V37 skyline and it’s the same thing as the Q50 in three US.

The same can be said of the G35 and G37 - they were called the skyline in Japan.

Think of the skyline as the BMW 3 series. In 1993, You have your base model 316i. The skyline equivalent was the skyline GXi with a CA18i - NA 4 cylinder with under 100hp. In the same year, you could get a 286hp M3 or an underrated 276hp GT-R.

The common car chassis and GT-R trim shared a common architecture until the R35 GTR. At which time the GTR became its own car and was no longer a skyline. The skyline lived on as a common cat.

The Skyline wagons are actually Nissan Stagea with Skyline clips. They are horrid and should be destroyed, the Stagea is beautiful without going boy racer:

The Skyline has always been a semi boring 4 door sedan, it’s just that everyone always hears about the “performance” variants, never realizing the Skyline in most cases is just a car.

Depends which engine and specification you or your company could  afford. Many many (most?) Skyline were fitted with comparatively anaemic 4 cylinder engines...

Granted, though they did do estates prior to the late 1980s.

Up to the R32 they came in 2 door coupe, 4 door saloon, 5 door liftback and 5 door estate.

It’s an ABOMINATION! The Stagea is beautiful without the boy racer nose.

This I knew as well, those you pictured were Stagea with Skyline conversions though.

I always preferred the Gloria wagons to the Skyline:

Even those older sedans are pretty cool.

This... Pure econo-car looks

I spotted this earlier. What a beauty. And such a usable cargo area!

Kinja'd!!!

II’ve been super impressed with Tokyo’s car choices. Wagons and vans are EVERYWHERE, crossovers are almost non-existant, and sedans are either taxis, Bentleys or VIP'd out.

Hmm, I didn't realize the chassis was the same for such a long period. The difference between the R34 GTR and base skyline is pretty stark

Semi-boring. This one is completely boring

I would love one of the rwd performance trims personally, but there was a yellow R34 GTR that I certainly wouldn't kick out of bed

So, to summarize what everybody else already said, the Skyline has always been a whole lineup of cars and the GT-R (and RS Turbo) was the top model. This was always the case until the R35, which became its own model separate from the Skline.

No Skylines were ever sold in the US until the first Infiniti G35, which was the same as the top JDM Skyline trim (below the GT-R).

Kinja'd!!!

T hat’s continued with the G37, EX35/37, Q50/Q60. Those are all the same as some variant of Skyline.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Fun fact: in Japan, when the Infiniti Q50 first came out, it had no Nissan badge. It had an Infiniti badge on the front grille and steering wheel, plus Skyline lettering on the back. Nissan has since switched back to Nissan branding.

I was s till tired when I wrote this but I’m extremely satisfied with my characterization of the Skyline as a “common cat.”
