Something was lost in translation, but getting shit faced at a tiiiiiiiny bar while listening to American and Japanese metal is something I won’t soon forget. Rockoholic is easily m y second favorite bar I’ve been to this trip.
Here’s a car to keep this blog... ON TOPIC

I am somehow both intrigued and disgusted at the idea of a tomato juice cider.
Tiny bars with live music are generally the best places to get drunk.

Yes me too, was it good? Bad? Too weird to live too rare to die?

The fact that this post was on the first page of a google search for “tomato juice cider” tells me I’ll probably never find one to try.

Oh no. It wasn’t live music. Tiny bar, literally underground through an incredibly steep winding staircase. The bartender was also a dj, and had a ton of roxk/metal cd’s and albums, along with a few turntables. He did an amazing job dj ’ing.
The cider was disgusting at first sip, but about halfway through, I really started to warm up to it

I think I’ve been to that place. When I went there it was just a bunch of anarchists hanging out. A buddy played an electronica set there.
Also, tomato juice cider? I’m intrigued.

Engrish is definitely one of my favorite parts about visiting Japan. It’s everywhere.

Oh you went to a HUB, lol. I used to eat at Ohachi a lot, before I was with my wife I would go to the better British pubs since girls went there to speak English. The Hitachino Brewing Lab at Tokyo Station is good, they have one in SF now.

MOS Burger is ok, always fried eggs on them, which I came to enjoy. Gott’s here in SF has that with the impossible burger option and is good.

That sounds like the place! Definitely counterculture to most of Tokyo, but the people inside were very friendly to me, and they didn’t have that overly polite, almost sterile feel that you run into with a lot of Tokyo citizens .
I’m 99% sure it was just their house cider with a can or two of tomato juice poured in, but it was actually pretty good!

It is an awesome place. I’m already planning to g o back, albeit during a cooler month. 95 with 65% humidity is rough for a Seattle guy

Yep, I was there in October and even in October it was crazy hot.

That sounds like the perfect drink for a hot day.

Two of them! The one by the main crossing in Shibuya was way too busy so we found another not too far away. Was a nice break from the mostly Asian dishes and clientele!
I'll have to look for the brewing lab, that sounds interesting

It’ s the Hitachino brewery restaurant so you can try the beer and they have some fancy beef etc:
1-9-1 Marunouchi | Tokyo Station Grand Roof 2F, Chiyoda 100-0005, Tokyo Prefecture
I actually met my wife at the Gaspanic in Shibuya, I had followed some guy I knew there and I met her and a couple of her friends. It was several hours before I knew which one of them had claimed me...

I could never live in the city again, every time we go back we feel exhausted after a couple days before we go somewhere else. I always try to get to a sumo basho though, I haven’t missed watching a tournament in fifteen years.

Ruf. I go in Feb usually. Temp is nice (for me, I’m from the frigid north). And the potential for some snowboarding trips.
